the number of immigrants currently in the USA now is equal to the number of all immigrants that came before - does it make sense to blast it much higher?
see this short video the chart came from

No, we do not need a time out. We do need to enforce the immigration law already enacted and stop blaming the immigrants for the problem. Illegal immigration is spurred by opportunity. Take away the opportunity and you ease the problem. Too many industries are already making too much due to guest worker and undocumented worker programs that are, sit down for it, LEGAL. There are a huge number of undocumented, yet legal workers from Mexico and South America working in the lumber and agriculture fields. Thes people did not sneak accross the border. They were brought over legally on busses and in vans by industries that seem to be able to prove a need for such workers.

We absolutely need a complete moratorium on immigration and a secure border. Then we can maybe figure out what to do with the criminal invaders already here.

i saw the senator of alabama who had just talked about this on c-span thursday or friday before the break for the holiday...an illegal makes 10 grand a year...but uses 20 more in our tax dollars..per person...each one of those illegals (if working, that is) cost us 20 thousand dollars on top of the 10 thousand they make. not to mention the fact that they stole a job away from an american or new LEGAL LAW-BIDING immigrant

I think we do need an immigration time out. We need to seal the borders and see how many we do have. Then deport all illegals or enforce our hiring laws. If employers had HUGE devastating fines then nobody would hire them and they would be forced to go home.

What we need to do is enforce the dang laws that are already on the books. If our current laws had been enforced we would not be in the situation we are in today.
BTW- Jeenie says they need to be treated like humans... Hello!!!! They are treated better than the actual citizens of the US who live law abiding lives.

How about 1491?
Ooops, I forgot, you have benefitted from immigration since then, so why don't we make the cut-off point one year after the last person that you care about settled in your country?
