Matthew 19
14 But Jesus said, “Suffer the little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for to such belongeth the kingdom of heaven.”
21 Jesus said to him, “If you would be perfect, go, sell what you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.”
22 When the young man heard this he went away sorrowful; for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus said to his disciples, “Truly, I say to you, it will be hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
Luke 14
12 He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your kinsmen or rich neighbors...
13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind,
14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.
John 8

Disclosure: I am a liberal and an athiest and I agree with all those who have answered by insisting in a seperation of church and state; however, the other side (conservatives) seem to have no problem injecting the Bible into politics (gay marriage, stem cell research, etc) so given that that is their philosophy I was wondering how they would apply the above messages from the Gospel to Policy.

Such versus should affect candidates in the same way they effect others. These are guides to living well and, if followed can bring about good things. These are not platforms for candidates especially, though you will find most of the same ideas expressed in the promises of each candidate.

If politicians really cared about these verses, they would want to keep taxes low and government involvement low so that Jesus' followers would be free to obey Jesus with all they can.
To the Lord who cares about all of us, his command for me and you to feed the poor, and bless those who cant bless us back is at least as important as the poor being fed and the blind and lame being blessed. Jesus says "You do it" not "Get 'er done"
It's about doing it. There's no blessing for the person paying taxes and having them distributed by the government. Furthermore, this creates a fear of giving all that we have, because we don't know when the government is going to want to take something (not that we ought to live in fear)
If candidates cared rather than wanting control, then they wouldnt want to play God.

Our government does not follow the Word of God at all. They spend most of their time trying to Keep God out of it. Our government is ruled on the keeping the Church and state separated.

It's corrupt with homosexuals, and adulters, and most of athem worship money and can't get engough of it. I'm not really understanding your post.

Our own vice president's daughter is a lesbian, and is having a baby. Our own president supports that, yet he calls himself a Christian. You can not serve two masters, satan and God.

True Christians are to be in agreement with the Word of God and live by it, and not go along with what the rest of this world is doing which is following satan.

Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Those verses should humble them, but I don't see Hilary giving up her hard earned immoral gains she has accumulated at our expense. She is very tolerant though, after all she is still married to Bill.

Well since we don't live in a theocracy and supposedly have a wall between church and state, I guess they shouldn't affect it at all.

They don't have any real bearing on who I vote for since they're all blow-hard douchebags who are just going to break every "promise" they make on the campaign trail.

I won't. Religion is nothing more than a prop to the current crop of candidates.
