Yesterday it was hot out and he came in from under the deck limping. He limped all day and night. Of course my wife and I felt really bad for him and gave him tons of attention. This morning I woke up to take him to the vet and he is no longer limping!

Should we still take him in even though he is not showing the same symptoms? I check for cuts and thorns but didn't see anything. I am starting to wonder if he could be smart enough to fake it! He is a 95 lb Lab.

I had some dogs do this for attention--but if he acts like it really bothers him,,take him to a vet.hope this helps.

Still take him to the vet. It's not unusual for symptoms to come and go especially when joint or muscle pain is involved, it doesn't mean the vet won't be able to illicit a pain reponse and find the cause of the problem.

While people will claim dogs can fake injuries for attention, it's dangerous to assume this is the case. At the end of the day the dog won't be able to fool the vet.

Dogs don't think that way. Your best bet is to take your dog to the vet. The pain may not be in the leg at all but could be in the back or neck depending on if it's a front or back leg. Plus many dogs will not yelp or whine but offer subtle behaviors such as turning their head away or into the pain during the palpation. So talk to your vet.

Dog cant fake an injury. It probably was a pulled muscle or a strain and with over night rest it seems better now. This doesnt mean it is. I'd still take him into the vets to be on the safe side.

Yes, dogs like attention. They are smart. They are not that smart. Something was wrong with his leg. He could have been bit by a spider. Just because you didn't feel a thorn didn't mean he didn't have one. Was he limping from his paw or his shoulder? How old is he? At 95 lbs. and under a damp porch it could have been arthritis. I could guarantee it wasn't for pity.

yes dogs can fake having a hurt leg. i had a blue healer that got ran over and had to have a rod put in his leg, over time if he didn't know you were looking at him he walked fine but as soon as he seen me looking he would start limping. my vet said that is was normal for him to be limping to get attention. i have a small dog that stays in the house now that will fake limping when he want some attention, and he has not hurt his leg or anyting. dogs are smarter than we think they are

Take him to the vet just to make sure. He may have had a bee sting or something that as the night went by he felt better. It's better to be safe then sorry. Dogs are really good at hiding their pain so he may really still be injured. Only the vet will be able to tell you whether he is really injured or not. Good luck

dogs don't usually fake injuries but are excellent at dealing with them so he may actually be "hiding" the injury from you. probably no big deal but try touching all over the foot and leg to see any signs of pain. if he limps again go to the vet.

Yes, this is possible but, in your case not likely. Has the dog been injured before? If not then no chance the dog has conceived this plan, carried it out to success. Dogs are smart but not that smart. They learn by experience. Dogs also do not show pain or an injury unless they can't conceal it. That is instinctive in dogs.

my parents had a golden lab when i was a kid, i can remember him actually hurting himself and my sis and i would make a big fuss about him, the limp would carry on for a couple of days, then one morning, the leg the limp was on,changed. i very much believe that dogs will milk an injury, but not fake one. id keep an eye on him for a few days, but he sounds ok
