LOL win 98SE ??? why on earth would u do that ?

i guess u got ur reasons. what u do is get ur windows 98SE CD and change ur boot sequence so u boot from CD. then install windows 98 from the CD, formatting ur C drive from within the setup program. carefull tho, if your HDD is formatted with the NTFS file system, i don't think u'll be able to install Win 98 SE, since it uses FAT32

and btw u don't need admin pw to wipe windows XP and reinstall it
just boot from CD and install. the setup program for xp can format in either NTFS or FAT32 file systems, so u can use that to format to FAT32 if u really want to downgrade to win98 SE.

Hope this is not too confusing and helps :D

It's ok, but remember that Win98 is no longer supported by Microsoft therefor there are no security updates available. You will need a Win98 boot disk (floppy) and you will need to set the boot sequence in the BIOS to boot from the "A" or "Floppy" drive first.

If you have an XP installation CD, you could reinstall XP. That will eliminate the password problem.

You can use a bootable win98se CD. You need to make a new installation on a different partition, not the same one which has winxp. when you finish the installation you will see two choices on the black screen before the starting of windows. You can choose the OS that you need and you will keep your old system in a safe side.

Yes. Use fdisk from the win 98 and delete the xp partition. Reformat using fat 32 so that 98 will be compatable and do a regular win98 install.

just make sure all your data is properly saved on another media such as CD or DVD or another FAT partitions. then format your partitions and install 98SE.

windows xp cant be downgraded to 98se and not compatible with NTFS. it's the reason why you should format your partitions.

you will have to either:
format and reload wit win98 cd
dual boot (partition and load win98se on a separate partition) that you will have to create first, using the free space on the hard drive. partition magic will let you partition and reclaim free space and turn it into useable space - without deleting existing windows xp data.

- boot manager software to manage dual boot winxp and win98
- vcom's "system commander" is a good program to use for this

Format the HDD from DOS, and then install SE.

Simple as that.
