Hi! I was planning on going to get my driving permit this afternoon, but then I realized that you have to take an eye test. I've asked others that have taken the test in my state, and it is one of those unsanitary contraptions in which you press your face against that black bar to display the information. Well, that's a problem for me because I refuse to have an eye exam, as I have contracted conjunctivitis TWICE from TWO SEPARATE eye exams.... at doctor's offices no less! And the doctor's office BY FAR would go through more steps in sterilizing their equipment, no? I refuse to touch any part of my body, let alone a mucous membrane, against something that every foreigner that just stepped off the boat touches. Don't give me any "everyone does it, and I've never caught anything anything" because it DOES happen -- and twice to me no less! Is there an alternative (i.e. having a note from a doctor with all of my vision test results)? Thanks!

Honey, hate to break it to you, but that sanitizing cloth does NOTHING. You have to submerge something in 70-90% ethyl alcohol for 20 minutes to sterilize it.

I hope that you catch a lethal form of conjunctivitis at your next eye exam. You may say, "Who would go to get an eye exam if they have conjunctivitis anyway?" .... Well I have a question for you -- Who would go on 7 different plane trips in 3 different continents with antibiotic-resistant tuberculosis? Apparently someone. . . .

Get your vision tested by a trusted eye professional. Bring the test results with you, along with a statement that you cannot be accurately or safely tested by the DMV/RMV equipment. You won't have to take the test. You may have to ask to speak to a supervisor as some of the lower-level trolls may not be aware of this. Good luck!

Here's the deal...if you can't pass the test the DMV requires you to take, why should they grant you a license? How do they now that you can properly see? I just got my license a month ago (moved back to Ohio after living in Michigan) and the vision test station had individually wrapped santizing clothes. Or perhaps you could bring your own with you.

Um 'honey' if you are going to be that anal about that, perhaps you really don't need your drivers license in the first place.

And here's a thought too...I know you have to press your forehead against the machine (at least in Ohio)...just take something - a paper towel, kleenex, something along those lines and place that between your forehead and the bar. If even that won't suit you, perhaps you need to be evaluated for OCD or something. And that's not a jab at you, I'm actually be serious.
