Jesus died for your sins and mine. He did something for us that no man could do. All men have sin since Adam and Eve ate an apple or fruit of the tree. Jesus was merely God in the flesh and sinless the perfect sacrifice for sin. God set the law that without the shedding of perfect, flawless, sinless blood there is no remission of sins. Only Christ could fulfill this position of a sinless man.

Now, if you choose Jesus and accept what He did for you, He will give you eternal life freely. It is a free gift from Him. If you reject Him as the devil has done, then you will spend eternity in hell.

Jesus was the "Lamb of God who took away the sins of the world." Christ died for everyone both believer and nonbeliever.

He replaced the sacrifices that used to be offered up to God. By 'wearing' our sin on the cross, He made it possible for every man and woman, not just Jews to get into Heaven not based on good deeds but by just having faith.
God got frustrated that almost everyone is not worthy to get to heaven so instead of detroying everything by flood or pounding us all like Soddom, He compromised by making it possible for Jesus to interceed for us.

Apparently, the Abrahamic deity requires blood sacrifice and burnt offerings....it needs blood.
A deal was struck wherein this final, human sacrifice, would cover all the other sacrifices that would be needed in it's place.
Nice, eh?

Jesus died to save all of mankind from their sins. To show God that we should be forgiven for all sins commited. Just as his saying goes, "Forgive them, father, for they do not know what they are doing."

His death on the cross paid the price of our trangression we made at the Fall. If He didn't die, we would have to suffer the same fate and still go to Hell. He died and rose again so we could have the chance of going to Heaven.

He died on the cross for our sins. This is an ultimate sacrafice. When we sin, we can repent our sins and ask for forgiveness.

It was entertaining for the people to watch at the time. So it didn't really help us today...it was just entertainment a long time ago...
