Cat's average weight is 3.5-4.5kg. 6kg cats usually are fat, but it's also perfectly possible for 6kg cats to just be big animals.
We decide whether animals are fat based on looking at their shape, rather than their weight. It's called body condition scoring, it's like body mass index for humans. Take a look at this diagram and decide which your cat most looks like:
http://www.hillspetslimmer.co.uk/overweight/diagnosis_bodycondition.html
Your cat should have an obvious waist line, and you should be able to feel his ribs easily.
What food are you feeding your cat on? Weight control is more about the quality of food than the quantity. If your cat is on dry food only, it MUST be a complete diet. Go-cat and whiskas biscuits are not good - generally having coloured biscuits in the food is not a good sign! Iams and Hills are high quality cat foods.

Hi!
I am a vet tech at a feline only veterinary hospital in the US. I took me a minute to do the pounds to kilogram conversion, but 6 kg is about 13.2 pounds, so I would say he's fine.
Unless of course he has a very small frame, but even so with 10-12 pounds being the ideal, 13.2 is really still fine, That is a perfectly acceptable weight for an indoor cat of his age. Keep his diet healthy and make sure he exercises. I would only be concerned if it goes up.

It's hard to say without a picture but if he is a tall tom cat then he sounds like he is the perfect wieght. 6kg is 13.2 lbs (i live in the US) it's usually avereage for a cat to wiegh between 9-12Lbs or 4-5.5kg. If he is a little smaller for a tom cat try feeding him a well balanced cat food and only feed him 2x a day. Free feeding often causes obesity in cats. Good luck

6kg: sounds like an overweight cat.
The small quantity of food given to the cat does not prevent a cat (or a dog) to get fat. If his stomach feels empty, your cat will feel hungry and ask for food all the time. His diet may even become unbalanced, lacking of necessary vitamins, essential fatty acids ... while still containing too much calories.
The solution is to get a lighter diet. You will find a selection on that link:

is he on the large size (build) than probably not. a good way of checking is this can you feel his ribs when you gentle push against them if you can then he is probably around the correct weight if not then he is too heavy and needs to lose weight. my tom cat is 1year old and weighs already 4.9kg and could end up weighing about 6kg when he has finished growing and gaining weight he is a norwegian forest cat cross. some moggies can be very large indeed i had one who weighed in at 8kgs and he was perfect weight.

It depends on the bone structure of your cat I have a cat that weighs 8.5kg, but hes not fat, hes just a big cat, tall with long legs, male cats tend to be heavier than female, I also have a tiny girl cat that weighs 4kg, but she has tiny paws and is small all over, my other male cat is a bit fat, but not too bad, he is just an average sized kitty, as long as he is leaping about like he should, and you can still see his paws when he sits down you dont have a problem!

Yes he is fat.....an average cat weighs 4kg..but take heart my moggie weighs 8kg..but be warned I have has to take him to the vet cos of pee problems cost so far £132.64...this was the advice no dry cat food ..wet food only...as there are thing in dry food which lead to bladder problems..If they are not dealt with asap..kitty can die...and you can be talking mega money if they need an operation and lifetime medication..hope this helps.

Seems a bit lightweight to me. If he is constantly asking for food - maybe there's a reason. Cat's are not like dogs - I've always found that I could leave a dish of dry food and a dish of water constantly refreshed so that they could eat as and when they chose. They knew there'd always be something to eat so didn't bother me for scraps and didn't overeat either.
