Hi,
I have been going to church since December and now think im ready to become a christian, I have decided this because I believe in god and want to follow and do the correct things, but also I feel im doing this because of a guy called Tim I really like at church, and im not allowed to date him unless im a christian, I am partly doing it because of him, I would be lying if I said I wasnt, but im also wanting to do it because since going to church I have manged to change quite alot and sort out some bad things I had been doing, such as drinking too much most nights and adult modelling.
So what I want to know is do u think I am ready to become one yet, or is it too soon?
and if so what do I do would being baptised show then that im a christian?
Thanks
x

You can become a Christian anytime that you want to. Just don't do it for the guy -- do it because you believe that it is what is best for yourself. After all, you don't know if it will work out between you and Tim or not. What is most important here is your relationship with Jesus, and how it affects your life & make you a better person.

Whew. Thanks for your honesty. You become a Christian when you become a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. The devil believes in God, he just doesn;t know God as Saviour and Lord.
I am delighted you are changing your ways but baptism is a public statement about faith and happens after your conversion. Baptism should not be based on the feelings you have for Tim. Better that you keep going to Church and get to the point where you would not even have to ask the question. Do you love the guy more than you love the Lord? (Don't answer - these are for you) - Would you go to the church if Tim stopped going? Would you hang out with him on Sundays if he left church and went bowling or drag racing? Or would you go to Church? Unless your love for Christ is more than for another human being then you should not join the church / be baptized - yet. Is Tim a Christian? Have you discussed these things with him? With his pastor? It is not too soon for you - it is a question of motivation and how much is because of Tim and how much is because of Christ and what He has done for you. Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and ALL the other things will be added to your life (and in perspective of importance). If you really want the answer, pray for it to be made clear.

Well it sounds like you're drawn towards God for more than just the guy, so I would say go for it! I'm so pleased that you've been working on changing your life for God.. he's so proud of you! Concerning your thoughts on the Christian guy, make sure that if things don't work out between you or w/e that you don't give up on God as well. And being baptized is a big deal..so talk t your pastor to explain it to you and you can see together if you're ready for it. To let everyone know you're a Christian just tell them! They wiil be so happy for you and will begin to see how different your life is. God Bless

You can always become a Christian. it sounds like you're on the right path right now. But you need to understand that you're not just a christian if you just believe in God. If the guy acted like a total jerk to you or something happened to make you not like him anymore would you still love God? Would you still want to have him in your life and be a follower of him. To truly be a Christian means to put christ before all people in your life. You have to be willing to take your whole life and throw it before you and say to God direct my life, empty me and fill me up with more of you. Don't be discouraged if God doesn't immediately direct your life, don't loose faith and think he abandoned you because he never will. God works on his own time and to be a christian you have to be willing to wait for however long he wants you to to have an awesome relationship with him so you can be a christian but you're not necessarily ready for that relationship with the lord. As for the relationship with the guy, good luck, if it happens it happens and that would be great but don't put him in front of God.You don't have to get baptized. Jesus died on the cross for your sins so baptizing someone just symbolizes and publicly admits that you're a christian. Good luck and welcome, it sounds like I'll see you at the party!â¥

Becoming a Christian is a simple process but you need to do it for the right reason.
1. Hear -- "So the faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17
2. Believe -- "He who believeth and is baptized shall be saved. He who believeth not shall be damned." Mark 16:16
3. Repent -- "And Peter commanded them saying repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of your Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins."
4. Confess -- Romans 10:9
5. Be Baptized -- Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, 1 Peter 3:21
6. Remain faithful -- Revelation 2:10

What you believe makes you a Christian...Christians are still people, and people are NOT perfect....Therefore, you don't have to try to be "perfect" before you become a Christian...If you love Jesus, and accept Him into your heart, that makes you a Christian....again, it's about what you believe...but I wouldn't suggest making that decision just for a GUY...do it for YOU if you take it seriously, especially since you've noticed positive changes in your life....
And baptism is a means to signify that you've been saved and are now a Christian....Like I said before, confessing that you accept Jesus as your Savior, and meaning it, is how you become saved/Christian...
Check out Romans 10:9-10
Again, don't make this about a guy, though...lol

It depends on what denomination you are. I was baptized when I was a baby, but was never raised in the Catholic Church, even though my father is Catholic. So now, even though I was baptized, I have to go to catechism classes to receive all of my sacraments.
