I constantly hear that the Bible is the indisputable word of God. Therefore everything in it is perfect.
So as someone who goes to church and/or watches it on TV, I see alot of women sinning.
1 Cor. 11:5-13 "but any woman who prays or prophesises with her head unveiled disgraces her head-... For if a woman will not veil herself, then she should cut off her hair:....Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head unveiled?"
Now does that make Omish women more pious and in better favour of God then other Christian women who do not veil themselves? Afterall, that is a quote from the Bible, the true word of God. And if you haven't been educated in that before will you now change?
Just curious?

The rest of that verse says: that if it causes contention then we have no such practice.

This means that if there are issues with covering your head, you don't need to do it. It is the better thing to do, but if it causes problems it doesn't need to be followed.

This means it is up to the individual.

At the Vatican Council II it was changed that it wasn't a requirement that women have their heads covered while in the church building. This was a old Jewish law and still is an Orthodox Jewish law. Some Christian churches still instill this but as far as the Catholic Church, at the Vatican Council II, it was decided that the veiling of a woman's head was optional. The meaning of 1 Cor. 11:3-16 isn't actually talking about covering a head, it is speaking about submission to the Lord by the husband and the submission of the wife to her husband and the submission of the children to the mother. The man/husband devotes his life to the Lord and has a dedicated prayer life and he trusts the Lord. He teaches his wife and she trusts her husband. In return, she teaches the children and they trust their mother.

this is what 1 Corinthines 11:5-13 means: In a marriage relationship, there is authority from Christ to husband, and from husband to wife. The authority of Christ is the authority of God. Any man who speaks with God or about God in a way that shows a lack of respect for the authority of Christ, dishonors Christ. In the same way, a wife who speaks with God in a way that shows a lack of respect for the authority of her husband, dishonors her husband. Worse, she dishonors herself—an ugly sight, like a woman with her head shaved. This is basically the origin of these customs we have of women wearing head coverings in worship, while men take their hats off. By these symbolic acts, men and women, who far too often butt heads with each other, submit their "heads" to the Head: God. And don't, by the way, read too much into the differences here between men and women. Neither man nor woman can go it alone or claim priority. Man was created first, as a beautiful shining reflection of God—that is true. But the head on a woman's body clearly outshines in beauty the head of her "head," her husband. The first woman came from man, true—but ever since then, every man comes from a woman! And since virtually everything comes from God anyway, let's quit going through these "who's first" routines. Don't you agree there is something naturally powerful in the symbolism—a woman, her beautiful hair reminiscent of angels, praying in adoration; a man, his head bared in reverence, praying in submission? I hope you're not going to be argumentative about this. All God's churches see it this way; I don't want you standing out as an exception.

Elderly Catholic women in my country used to veil themselves when they prayed.

But it seems that is now outdated.

I went to a catholic school, and I never heard of this.

I can just relate what I first said to that biblic observance, since a Jehovah's witness once mentioned something similar, or that female Jehovah's witnesses veil themselves while they pray in the presence of a male (or so).

Anyway, as I grow older, I realize that there many biblic instructions that are ignored these days, even in Catholic schools.
And I sense that if all (Catholic) people read the whole Bible, perhaps many would abandon their faith, as the Bible seems to include many controversial and intolerant points... (much more than this is one, by the way)

Your question is based on a 400 year old translation of the Bible. A translation where in that chapter the words mean something very different than they do today.

The context even in your out dated translation tell you that her hair is being talked about, not a hat or other head covering.

Here is a better translation:

4 Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5 And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved. 6 If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. 7 A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. 8 For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9 neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10 For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.

That sign of authority is her hair.

Many things said in the Bible are not applicable for today's society. It also says for slaves to obey their masters. Does this make slavery O.K.? I think not.

There is NO WAY that everything in the Bible was divinely inspired. It is impossible for a human being, whether it be through divine inspiration or their own mind, to write anything without bringing their social customs, culture, and traditions into it.

You need to take it in context....In the culture of that time they were having a problem with the women in the Corinthian church.

God still calls women to preach and teach. At the moment, I'm studying to become a licensed minister.

That is from the Old Testament. Part of 600 laws the Jews had to try and comply with. they could not.
So Jesus instituted the New Covenant, in the New testament which replaced the 600 with only two.
(Matthew 22:37-40) He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’ 38 This is the greatest and first commandment. 39 The second, like it, is this, ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments the whole Law hangs, and the Prophets.”

I know that a woman does not have to be veiled at home and when Catholics are at Mass in the Church they are at home with the Lord.

It's just the crap people are taught. It's means nothing. I think too many people have tried to decide what God's rules are. yet it is man that made these rules not God.
