In order to suppose that we are incapable of knowing God, then one must suppose that we are at the pinnacle now of our knowledge. That is to say, we already know all we will ever know. You and I both know this to be untrue, as there are so many questions left out there. Think of it this way: When a child first enters school, we don't expect them to jump headfirst into advanced calculus. Why? Because the child may at best have the basic tenets of counting to twenty down. It works the same way with unraveling the meaning of the universe and all that that entails. We're working on understanding the basic stuff right now so that we can move towards the larger picture. It's a process of evolution, which if one of the hallmarks of a perfect creation in that any perfect creation will be able to maintain and improve itself. A thousand years ago, we were still hiding from shadows because we didn't know any better. We find knowledge at the pace we need to find knowledge. We were given curiosity to drive that process, but we are ultimately in control of where it goes. If more people would stop wasting their lives trying to amass pointlessly large fortune with which they do nothing to better the world, or spend more time worrying about the lives and escapades of people with too much free time on their hands, or even asking questions whose only purpose is to make them, at least in their own minds, feel superior to those who follow a different path, perhaps we would be a great deal closer to understanding than we are now.

What are you looking for -- a Creator's Guide to the Universe, with everything all neatly laid out for you? Immediate answers to all of your questions? Yes, I agree that it might be nice, except that while we do have these wonderful brains they aren't infinitely capable of processing information. Sometimes God simply answers "you're not ready for that yet" (as in John 16:12, if you'll permit me a Bible reference), and I have to think that's because He cares about us enough to reveal only as much as we are able to handle without frying our brains, so to speak.
If some are satisfied with superficialities, that's where they can leave it. Those who question on a deeper level usually find answers -- just not ALL of the answers. If you've come to the point in your inquiry about God that you at least acknowledge His existence, then you also must acknowledge that He is not bound by time or space. He can handle the burden of knowing the "big picture" in full. In our human limitations, we can't.

God is smarter than people. God gave us His Word the Holy Bible so man can understand Him. Man just refuses to read it. God said in the latter days that knowledge will increase. I believe we are there today. You will learn things greater and faster than you have ever learned in the history of mankind.
As God pours out His Spirit, old men will dream dreams and young men will see visions. Enjoy this day because it will never come again.

If we understand God, don't you think we could act as God? Like a teacher. We learn our subject, we know it, then we can teach it. Would you want to know the horror that is God? He did not make us strong enough to comprehend him, for our OWN good. As he says, we do not have to understand, or see, to believe, to have faith, and to love. He gave us these emotions, these abilities to believe WITHOUT knowing the truth. We do not need to know what he knows because we were made to have emotions like love and faith. With these tools, we can love and believe in him without comprehension. The human ego recognizes this and is jealous. You feel entitled to something God does not have to let you have. He wants you to over come your ego so you can rise to him and comprehend after death. All other questions are moot if you have faith.

If there is a God, He probably does want us to use our brains. On the other hand, Christianity can always point to Paul, who instructs us not to use our minds.
From the KJV: "Oh Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called” (1 Timothy 6:20).

"Isnt knowledge rather than faith a stronger selling point to all this?"
Yes, I suppose it is when your perception of reality is wholly natural.
God is supernatural.

If finding/knowing onself is the key to know what some people refer to as "God" then it could be said that god is elusive.
