Along time ago, I had a friend (girl) who did this from California to my state of Massachusetts. She stayed with me and another girl she met who was hitchhiking from Canada and ended up in my state. So she stayed with me too. When it as time to return, they looked in the paper because even back then, sharing rides helped pay for gas. We went to a nearby college and they had a paper of students needing a partner to travel with for gas. That;s how she got back. She would go as far as she could. then start walking again til she found another college with the same thing. It took her a total of 1 mo to get back and she wrote me and told me when she got back, Boy, that was a relief. In today world, I think it's to dangerous unless you do it with at least 2 others. Even then, I still wouldn't feel safe. Good luck

My grandfather successfully hitchhiked from Michigan to Kentucky. I definitely don't suggest it in this day and age. Good luck on getting someone to pick you up too.
