I think it sounds like a lovely engagement ring. If it would make you feel better, do as someone else suggested and get a wedding band with diamonds and little sapphires in it to match.
I think your gf will love it!

The whole "tradition" that a ring should be diamonds and worth a certain amount is nonsense, honestly it was a marketing ploy from the diamond companies, in Victorian times they favoured opals, the diamond companies saw it as an opportunity to make more money, funny how many people got sucked in by that pack of lies lol. An engagement ring can be anything, the value of it is not the important issue. I think a pink sapphire set this way would be beautiful, she is a lucky girl.

Firstly you shouldn't listen to people who are giving ypu negative feedback about this as this ring is meant to be a symbol of your love to your partner, not theirs. I personally think it is a lovely idea and I'm sure your partner will love it. As for the whole thing about diamonds being the stones you should use is not true, it should be a personal choice and your choice of a pink sapphire is not only different and fairly unique it also sounds lovely, and in my opinion is more personal than just buying a diamond ring from a shop.
Best of luck.

It really depends on what your girlfriend likes. I think most women like to show of their diamond but there are a few women out there who might like something different. My aunt actually got a blue diamond. She liked blue and hated the traditional white diamond. Just ask your girlfriend and if you want it to be surprise then ask her mom and maybe she can tell you what her daughter likes. When my husband bought my ring, I didn't care that is was small and cheap. I was just so excited that he wanted to marry me. After we had been married 5 years then he bought me a Hearts on Fire diamond and then a few months later we went and picked out a setting and watched a jeweler make the ring. It was so cool to do it together. You can always upgrade or get something different down the road. It is all up to you in the end.

Any ring can be an engagement ring.
The important thing is if your fiancee-to-be will like it. If she is more traditional and would be surprised to not have a traditional engagement ring.
But these days anything goes really. I know people with Sapphire engagement rings and emerald ones... it all depends on the person.

an engagement ring can be any kind that you and your partner agree on. the only person who's opinion matters is the person you're giving the ring to. once you propose, show her the ring, wait for a yes, and later, after a few hours, mention that if she wishes you can have the stone changed for a diamond. you don't want the proposal to become about the ring, it should be about the upcoming marriage... good luck

Do what YOU like. If you say it's your engagement ring, it's your engagement ring. Diamonds are going out of fashion due to the whole "conflict" issue, and colored stones are much more fashionable.

I would have thought that was fine. The main thing is, do you think your girlfriend would like it? I know of a girl who was given a pearl ring as an engagement ring, and she loved it, so it just depends on what she would like.
To help you figure out if she would like it (a lot of guys can know their girlfriends in and out, but not know a preference about jewelry), ask someone who WOULD know. My husband was worried I might not like the ring he got me, so he involved my mother and best friend to help him pick out one that would suit me. Another woman she's close to may know what she would like, or can find a good way to figure it out. My best friend ended up stopping by one of those jewelry stores while we were walking around the mall and noticed the rings I commented on.
I definately think it would be okay to propose with the ring, letting her know if she wants to have the stone replaced with a real diamond, that's fine.
Good luck! :-)

You can use any ring you want. No one, except some of those you asked, said it HAS to be a diamond. Many people don't even use engagement rings. Many have engagement rings, but hardly ever or never wear them for different reasons. I only wear mine once in a blue moon. It gets caught on everything, it tears gloves in my line of work, etc. I normally just wear my wedding band. Mine is cubic zirconia.

My engagement ring is my birthstone, an oval aquamarine stone surrounded by 2 rows of small diamonds. I love it and everyone that sees it says the same thing. Any ring can be an engagement ring. So, if YOU like it then leave it like it is.
