I am not an atheist so pardon my intrusion and if my assessment of persons who are atheists is wrong, please correct me. I do not think that the majority of atheists consciously try to turn people away from God. Many of them simply enjoy debates or the company of other atheists. Some also like ridiculing others sincere beliefs, even if these beliefs result in the persons living a happier life.
In any case knowingly or unknowingly, they are tools of Satan the Devil.(2Corinthians 4:4) We know for certain that his goal is to turn people away from the Almighty.

1. because this is an open forum and anyone can contribute whatever they like
2. because talking about religion is not the same as 'religious talk'.
3. why do people who only want to talk to a particular faith come on here instead of going to a more specific forum? i'm sure there are many sites where christians can get help with scriptures instead of being bothered by differing opinion on here.

You do realize this exact same question is asked daily, yes? First of all, congrats on being unique (can you tell that statement was dripping with sarcasm?).
Second of all, let us refer to your Bible in saying "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Meaning, Christians aren't victims, you aren't being persecuted, and you most certainly aren't innocent of the same things (interfering with question asked by Atheists directed towards other Atheists). How many times do you see a question directed to an Atheist that is answered by Christians telling us we are going to Hell or that we need Jesus? Why do you hang around Atheist talk if you are not Atheist?
Also, I'm not quite sure where you get off saying that our goal in life is to turn people away from God but that is most certainly not my mission. It is, on the other hand, the goal of Christians to convert non-believers.
Lastly, we have just as much of a right to have opinions about religion and spirituality as anyone else, including you.

Because this forum is open to everyone who has an opinion. Why do you feel the need to suppress ours? It is this kind of judgemental suppression that we are fighting aggainst. Mostly because of the way scripture biased laws are used to dictate the lives of those not a part of the religion it's from. Why are gays not allowed to get married? Because those who write laws are mostly christianity followers who are abuseing their positions in order to promote their beliefs.

Atheists, being individuals, probably have a wide variety of goals.
As to "why would you hang around religious talk..." may I suggest you consult "Resolved Questions" for a complete discussion of that topic?

1- I never realized that I had a goal. I appreciate you enlightening me to my mission in life.
I have never tried to "shove my ideas" down anyones throat or up their rear, nor have I ever emailed people a crapload of Bible verses telling them they are "stupid shameless females" for not believing as I do
2- We hang here for lots of reasons- this is a drinking question and I like to drink- one guy is just here for the chicks
3- we do not interfere any more than Christians do
Sorry if this sounds mean but the question was worded as sounding very accusatory and demeaning. I am usually very nice on here but your question just screamed "Attitude" this morning

You Christians are the ones spreading your version of events through every area of the media and more, I haven't heard of any Atheist promoting channels or Atheist preachers before, why do you want to infect peoples minds with your nonsense.

not being an atheist perhaps i should not speak for them but if someone is asking for an explanation of what a passage in the bible means or what it is talking about certainly Christians do not have an exclusive license on interpreting what the written word means.
