Using the common meaning rather than the true one of volitional action. . .
How do you - in this moment - clean up old stuff and ensure beneficial seeds for the future?
There may be no Karma in Emptiness - but if you're blundering about in the field of Samsara, can you sidestep Karma altogether?
As I ask this question and you answer it, what Karma do we generate?
'Wink'.

Aahhh! The wise ones gather.
Quiet acceptance.
Thinking happy thoughts.
Living in THIS moment.
Yes, Karma is inescapable, but what we do now shapes the future.

Law of karma is the way of this world. Lord Krishana says in Mahabharata " I can finish this war immediately but I am asking Panadavas to fight and win the battle for the right cause as I am here to teach mankind to do karma selflessly"
I think it is the thought behind karma, i.e. ur inner conversation when u do something, will manifest in the form of event in ur life. If u say " I am saving for rainy day," then ur savings will be used when rainy days come and rainy day will definitely be in ur life as u have sown the seed while saving. If ur thought is otherwise say for celebrating life, for strong financial position so that whatever u want to do in life should not be deterred for want of money and u save for that then life events will be such that u use ur savings for happy events and growth/prosperity. So it is the thought behind Karma that is important for good life. Think good motive in all karmas and u will ve good events happening to u. Now if today u start on this point, u ve accumulated negative thoughts in ur sub-conscious which u ve to cancel consciously and fill the gap by invoking positive energy so that negativity does not come back. If u do not cancel the accumulated negative thoughts then they will first appear in form of events in ur life and shake ur positive attempts for prosperity. Nothing is good or bad but thinking makes it so. Now to absolve urself from all karma do everything in name of god. Before u start a karma just say" God u r the doer of this karma" It has to be before u do a thing and not after u ve done it or if it is good then u ve done it and if bad then some other soul has done it. If u focus on this that God is the doer then u will be absolving urself from all Karmas.

I think it is niave to believe in karma, but comforting. If you don't know whether a person doing a bad thing to you was YOUR karma due to *you*, or whether the wrongdoer will now have some karma coming at THEM for "wronging" you, it makes no real no sense to me. Who or what actually determines if an act is good or bad, anyways? What if positive comes out of a bad act, or bad things come out of a good act? That happens and you are left with a much more complicated situation than a simple belief in karma can explain. Karma is an eastern religious construct that was made up to keep people in line, just like heaven/hell.

I wonder why you are asking as, judging by your initial statement, and some of what follows, you appear to be knowledgeable about the subject.
You will therefore understand that we cannot sidestep Karma altogether. Even the Buddha, having achieved full Enlightenment, still suffered the fruits of previous Karma (albeit predominantly positive fruits because of His actions in previous lives) because He was in some discomfort when he died. Presumably, he created nothing but positive Karma once fully Enlightened.
If we try to be aware of our actions and interactions, and act as skilfully as possible, we will sow more and more beneficial seeds for our future. All the more positive if we make society a better place because of our actions. Presumably, if this discussion creates a better understanding for those who read it, then the Karma is positive. But only a Buddha would truly know.

Karma is the law of cause and effect and it seems to be operating every single nano (and smaller divisions) of the seconds we live.
It is the other side of the coin of life so to say - no side stepping it.
But you have got a point: karma ceases to function in emptiness. There is a saying in Tamil about Karma: Cease desire, Cease desire, even if it is towards God, cease desire. (Some Buddhistic influence might have been behind this notion). But desire is the cause of all Karma whether good or bad.
Hence if all desire is cut, you may get out of the samsara wheel of birth and death and rebirth. Even after ceasing desire, you still have a load of bad karma to work out, out of your system, that is.
That is why in Christianity, the blood of Jesus is there to wash away all your sins of the past (though the concept of life(s) again is alien to Christianity). One life and you enter into the presence of God which IS Heaven.
As to what all types of existence are there after this life is there.........I do not know.

Sidestep karma huh? I don't see how one would do that. I generally believe in the common meaning, I think what goes around does come around. I think the wisest people know this, after all, it feels good to do good things, esp for people who are older, or younger, etc. that couldn't have otherwise accomplished "it". Clean up old stuff? Well, I believe we have every morning to do that, we always have a choice. I prefer the field of akasha. The karma we are generating would merely be exchange of info & opinions. That's ok, isn't it? :o]~

Simply put Karma is unavoidable, whether you rip good Karma or bad Karma all of us at one point or another pay the consequences of our actions or get rewards for them.
Karma is non judgmental, it does not see nor cares who you are in this lifetime, Karma simply exists; a never ending Universal energy.
There is no Karma to generate from this question, only a lesson to be learned.

Karma no needs any belief.
To believe, it is not at all like any God.
It is really a rule of this nature.
Like Gravity Force, Or Magnetic Force.
Even no one is at it`s side to believe still it works.
Sir Isac Newton explained Karma in his Third law of action.
*Every action force will get same and opposite reaction force*.
But there is a way to keep ourselves away from the impact.
Krishna taught us this secret.
At this part Karma is different from other universal rules.
Being we, specially Human are ~generating~karma, there are chances to reduce the ~production~ and thus it`s impact.
Dear Jon, You are also right ..By keeping ourselves happy at any situation is also very powerful shield to protect ourselves from the force of Karma......This way is called as "Anandamarga" ....the route of bliss.
There is no way to keep ourselves away from another type of karma.
The another one is "Collective Karma" i.e Karma generated by total population upon the earth.
The results of collective karma are -Wars-Epidemic
Deceases etc.
To reduce the force of Collective Karma-there is only one way.
A GODLY PERSON should accept all the punishment.
To do this he should be too much courageous.
- For this reason-
Krishna promised that-" I will come again whenever I am needed"
-and-
Jesus prayed on the cross: " Pardon them, they don`t know what they are doing"

We generate good karma as we discuss this question, because its for knowledge for betterment.
Karma can not be side step-ed, for it is a law and we all are subjected by it.
Karma can not be relinquished, but daily made bad karmas can be eliminated by reciting certain mantras and ensuring freeness in future.

Yes, I believe. If you mean to say, how not to get the bad karma resulting in the bad deeds you did. Yes, it's possible. The important thing is to admit the mistake or recognize it was truely bad. Then repent, make amends, if possible, to the one you have offended. If not, just go back to God, and try to do a lot of good to a lot of people, for the love of God not because you fear the karma. And importantly, learn to forgive yourself, for you to find internal peace. God bless you...

Magnolia's great isn't she? If you are seeking an answer Bodhidharma might ask you to show him your mind. Without karma would or could there be enlightenment? There is only one mind but to know this one must first be a genuine fake. ~ : )
