You need to balance your diet with your exercise so you burn more calories than you take in. Go see a good personal trainer. I did. I got a good caloric deficit going and lost 50 pounds.
The bottom line is, you can't get down to a weight and then figure you are done and don't have to watch your food intake anymore. Calories cause you to gain fat. You're gaining fat because you eat too much compared with what your body uses. Period, end of story.

Nothing's wrong with you. You're normal and for normal people only eating right and exercise will work. Don't go for "diets" just keep away from food with high calories and with fat content. This isn't easy but it works. As far as exercising, you need to keep at it regularly because the body will lose weight fast at first but then you stop seeing results for a while even though the exercise is helping. It takes a long time to drop all the pounds.

Weight losing is hard- I will tell you you can't just wish it away that's for sure- alot of it depends on your age and how much exercise you are getting- I have struggled with my weight to, but I am finally losing (knock on wood)- I have cut back my sweets, pop, and even though I really dont care for water I drink it anyway- I went from 148 to 131 so far. I am active I work 40 hours a week and come home and after supper I ride my bike a mile every night. If you have slaved in gym- then I talk to your regular doctor about having your thyroid checked- I thought I was gonna have to

Most likely nothing is wrong with you as most of us fail many times at weight loss.
Weight watchers is the ONLY thing that has ever worked for me. Lost 40 lbs since last September and still losing.
Why? Because Weight Watchers is NOT A DIET but a lifestyle. It teaches you how to eat right and control portions....not restricting you to only certain foods. You can eat what you want to...you just account for the points which is really pretty easy to do.
You can do it by going to the weekly meetings (that's what I do and they are fun) or online. I really like it because either way you get LOTS of support from others who understand where you are coming from and they teach you how to create and maintain a healthy lifestyle but DO NOT talk down to you.
Try it....I think it will work for you as you sound like me just before I started last year.

to get permanent results you have to make permanent diet changes (temporary changes will give you temporary results)
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), light weight training (more muscle=faster metabolism) dont stay in the gym for more than 2 hours
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

I would suggest a cleansing diet. I did this and lost 12 pounds and 19 inches in 9 days. I continued and lost 29 pounds in a month. I like the program since it works by giving your body nutrition through protein shakes with digestive enzymes and vitamins and then cleansing out the toxins. We get toxins in our bodies from pesticides, preservatives, water, pollution, medications, food additives etc…. These toxins enter our bodies and get stored in our fat cells. To shrink the fat, we need to get rid of the toxins through cleansing. The program also has a natural diet pill to help your metabolism and curb cravings. It works and it works fast. My skin has improved from the cleansing. It is pricey but worth it! I think cleansing is really important to health and weight loss. Weight Watchers is the best diet plan, it allows you to eat whatever you choose, just watch your portions.
Try incorporating weights with cardio, drink plenty of water and add fruits and vegetables in.
You may also consider talking with your doctor about your health and weight concerns, sometimes not losing weight can be an underlying condition of something else.

Have you consulted with a doctor about your diet and exercise program? Perhaps his or her advice could help you get over the hurdle and maintain your weight lost. Get a check up. A doctor may even discover an existing condition that may be hindering this - i.e. lymphatic issues. Good luck with this endeavor.

theres only one "diet" the real one, where you eat 5-6 times a day with nothing but natural foods that are unprocessed, (protein, carbs, fats ) each meal. and you workout no more than 1 hour (weightlifting is ideal)
education helps
try reading up on human nutrition/exercise/how the body functions
