I do not rent my house i own it so will not get any help with that either!

sorry Lass, not much to suggest other than trying for a better paid job.
I'm only recently unemployed and from what i can tell the benefits system stinks unless you are a refugee.

If you rent your house you may be entitiled to housing benefit. Check re council tax benefit too. I take it you are claiming child benefit. Have you informed tax credits you now have a son? You will be entitled to child tax credit. Not sure about anything else but your local job centre should be able to advise you. Good luck, hope you get sorted soon. Life's a bummer when you're strapped for cash x

Are you sure your tax credits are right? I am currently on maternity leave and me and my partner have a combined income of 34k. We are getting £85 a month child tax credits and £72 a month child benefit for one child. I would ring them if i were you and check.
