Shame on them! Chocolate is not good to feed them. It is toxic. The darker the chocolate, the more toxic it is.

The truth is that chocolate is very toxic to dogs. It contains theobromine, which is what makes it so toxic. The darker the chocolate the more theobromine it has, thus far making it more toxic. This will make the dogs organs fail when given high amounts, and over time it will weaken the organs eventually leading to failure later in life. It will also contribute to canine diabetes if continued. They may say they see nothing wrong now, but in a few years if they continue this, the dog will have kidney (renal failure), liver, and diabetes trouble. Tell them if they care anything about this dog they need to stop giving it M & M's and go get a good healthy dog snack to give to it such as Nutro Biscuits, which is healthy and good for their teeth as well. New improved Greenies, are great treats that dogs love, and it also helps with oral hygiene. They can do better, there are so many other options to give the dog treats other than the bad chocolate.

I agree chocolate is toxic. If your friend insists on treating his dog to a sweet treat, they make a dog treat called Carob and it is chocolate to a dog from what I hear. I haven't actually used it but I know people that say their dogs love it. You can get K-9 Carob Kisses at the site below..they even look like chocolate chip morsels

not a good idea but the milk chocolate is the least toxic and it depends on the size of the dog and the amount of m&m's. It is still not a good idea my dog got a plate of brownies once but he was probably 75 pounds then (100 now) he ate a couple of them before he got caught. He didn't feel good but the vet said not to worry unless he got sick.
I still wouldn't feed my dog chocolate

No, it is not safe, and they need to invest in a little something called dog treats. You were right to tell them chocolate is toxic, and hopefully their dog won't have to get sick or worse before finally believing you.

Chocolate is toxic, and tell your friends they are destroying their dogs liver, and are probably making them obese, diabetic, or both. Also let them know that giving them garbage like that makes them more vulnerable to pancreatitis, which is a dangerous condition that can kill her dogs even if they're hospitalized for it.
As the first poster said, they CAN live, but they will suffer organ damage.

Feeding a dog chocolate can cause kidney and liver failure. The dog can lose years off his life, if they continue to feed it chocolate. That's very selfish of them. Tell them to read about it, and be responsible pet owners.

Definitely a bad idea. It's a little too complicated for me, but here are the reasons chocolate is bad:

It actually depends on what kind of chocolates you are feeding and how the dog's body can take the toxins.
But then, please tell and inform your friends immediately that although some dogs cannot die instantly to the poison of the chocolates to their body, it still is shortening their supposed-to-be lifespan, or at least, weakening their systems.

Your friend should stop that! If he wants to feed his dog people food, then he should talk to a vet or get a dog book. I've heard that chocolate can kill a dog, and i think he would feel pretty bad if he killed his own dog.
