Religious and Christian follower's are against gay Marriage, however, what have you got against Civil Unions? It's not religious, and homosexual couples get the same right/privileges under the government as heterosexuals!

I would also like to ask, how many of you have divorced which is not recognised in the eyes of most church's but have gone ahead because you can by law?
Is this not double standard if you are against gay marriage?

I enjoyed reading some of the answers you got here, and I just can’t stop laughing at such immature and narrow minded thinking, it's like hearing a tape recorder, over and over. . .

Unfortunately Civil Union doesn't come with full rights & privileges of Marriage. That is basically the reason why Gay people are fighting the issue. It is my understanding that Christian folks are afraid that Civil Unions will open the door to gay marriage, and that's why they oppose it.

In fact, many extremist Christians have a gay-hate fetish, which gives them an actual purpose, since for the most part, they have 'no lives.'

I'm against any kind of union between gay people because it is wrong. Homosexuality is wrong. It is clearly written in the Bible . Civil unions only move the homosexuality movement one step forward. I don't think they should have the same rights as a married man and wife. It's not the same thing. It's not how God intended things to be. The more we as a country start allowing gays to have rights, and become more accepting of the idea, the more God will punish our nation. Divorce is not allowed unless someone cheats. The Holy Bible doesn't say you can divorce but you have to make it legal. It talks about divorce for marriages where one person cheats on the other and this is when divorce is excusable and the person cheated on is permitted to enter into another marriage if they so choose. So, divorce in other situations is not what God wants and neither are gay relationships of any kind.

Brian> Really? then why are only 2 of the 10 commandments a law? There is no legal requirement to honor mom+dad, keep holy the sabbath, etc.

Also YOUR argument is flawed because the vast majority of evidence shows homosexuality is genetic, which means God made them gay. Hence you are saying you hate God's creation and that you are a higher authority than God. Sounds like the path of the morning star to me.

Now as for gay marriage it all comes down to the fact that NO ONE, not even government has the right to tell me who or what i marry. I will be honest here, I don't get being gay..playing with the same equipment I already have..it just doesn't synch to me but hey that is me and I am not the lord+master of all creation...but my not getting it doesn't make it wrong or weird..it is just another way to live no better or worse than mine. So I see no reason to discriminate against them

As a christian, I am against Civil Unions for both heterosexual and homosexual couples. If you want to play house then you should get married and commit your self to your husband/wife.

Marriage is between a man and a wife. The Bible is clear that homosexual is a sin. I do not hate anyone who is a homosexual, I do have friend who choice to be that way. They do know where I stand on the issue.

As for Divorce, the only reason for it is when a husband/wife cheats. This is what the Bible teaches. People who do get a divorce for any other reasons then the above is just wrong.

Not all Christians are against gay marriage, and many Christians don't get divorced and some churches expect good explanations about why they are necessary. There ARE openminded Christian churches out there. I don't mind gay marriage-if it is "wrong" that is between the person and God.
I think some people just want to control others, and there are still some devout people out there who believe God punishes and blesses entire nations, therefore it is important to be an upright nation in his eyes.
My God is much more loving towards the people he/she created.

Two clarifications.

First, not all Christians are against gay marriage. Plenty of laity, some clergy, and even a couple of entire denominations have given their blessing to gay marriage. That said, many more Christians are, indeed, opposed to gay marriage.

Second, divorce IS recognized by most churches. In fact, very few Christian groups prohibit divorce. Even Roman Catholics, whom most people view as the strictest on divorce, permit divorce / annulment if the conditions are right.

I don't know how this changes your argument...

I'm divorced & a Christian & I'm sorry religious fanatics but there is nothing wrong with me or gay marriage. Tend to your own business & stop getting into others FOR ONCE.

Is not a civil union essentially marriage? If benefits are required to those not married, then the definition of marriage is out as what is a civil union. This could lead to multiple people living together, requiring insurance coverage for all. This could bankrupt companies.
On the moral side, it isn't.

Just because people claim to be christian don't mean they are, unless you make a effort to live by jesus's teaching you are not a christian, bible says that. the bible also says that many shall say oh lord oh lord and believe in him, but they did not try to live by him, so he says i did not know you go away workers of inquity, about divorce some people are not meant to be married the bible says that to, also it says man is wikid and in todays world many people rush into marriage and do not wait for the person that god has appointed to them, so because of their lusts and lack of trust in God they sin.

I believe the civil magistrate is to uphold the Ten Commandments of God. Thus civil unions should not be allowed, and divorce for reasons unbiblical should not be allowed. In my denomination you can not get a divorce for an unbiblical reason - or you will face discipline.

However your logic is faulty because two wrongs will never make a right - the right thing to do is correct the wrong. But you are not really interested in doing that, you are merely looking for an excuse to justify sin.
