I'd like to spend a beach day in Long Island... Any suggestions? I don't have a car, so I will take the train

I would say Long Beach..it's closer than the hamptons. Take the LIRR and when you get off the train you only walk about 4-5 blocks.

You could take the LIRR Babylon line to either Freeport or Wantagh. At both stations, there are buses downstairs that take you to Jones Beach. Make sure you ask the clerk at Penn Station if there is any discount fare for the train and bus to Jones Beach.

Take the F train all the way to the end and you end up at Coney Island beach.
It's not very far away.

Take the Jitney out to the Hamptons. It's gorgeous and you might meet some stars.
