Something like sleeping, which is what Jesus described being dead like. But it is interesting that not once in the six thousand years of civilization on this planet, not one group of people could come to terms with 'not existing'. Each peoples had their own version of what happens when you die. I guess there is something still in our DNA that makes it impossible for humans to comprehend this, for our first parents were in fact immortal.

I get what you are trying to say, and for me it is the most alarming thought. I know it seems like an oxymoron, but I have done a mind experiment on what it would be like. No awareness what so ever, not even the awareness of no awareness. No thoughts, feelings, fear, peace, etc. Non existence. For me, scarier that the fictional nightmare of Hell.

I usually have more important things to do with my life than use the time I have imagining I no longer have it.

The value of considering one's own death is to lessen attachments to worldly things and thereby relieve the suffering caused by that attachment and desire for things. The value of considering one's own death can be to help us live fully in the moment. Having nearly died 4 years ago, I understand this more than many.

A dead person exists and occupies space, therefore is never gone.
