I had the same problem Kath. Mom uses the kids litter tray to train and will probably not stop. I put newspaper under the kittens litter tray and when mom kicked out the litter, I just picked up the newspaper and dumped the litter back in. I didn't have the actual mom, because I was bottle feeding babies, but the older cats wanted to help train the babies. Sarafina thinks she is helping and not doing it to make you mad, mommy.

You do not want to stop her as the kittens need to learn from her example. Just be sure to keep the litter tray well cleaned and to keep mum and kittens regularly wormed. You will need to buy lots of litter and you will need a couple more trays as they grow. Having kittens is an expensive business. Do not forget that you need to keep them until they are 13 weeks and fully vaccinated and if mum is not a pedigree registered for breeding that she needs to be spayed as soon as her milk supply dwindles.

Basically mum is training her kittens to use the tray. The only thing you can do is stop putting down two trays so that they only use one and maybe get a bigger one.

it's natural for this to happen. get a bigger box with high sides this way you won't loose a bunch of sand by them kicking it around to caver their mess.
