Buddy (The dog) is a kelpie and a little cutie, always placid and nice, but he wondered off one day about a week ago, and my brother couldnt find him, Buddy came home 2 days later limping on a leg that had a huge gouge out of it and blind in one eye. the man down the road had found Buddy sniffing around so he got a shovel and started hitting him untill he passed out. whats your opinion??.

If you can prove it, sue his pants off.
Get him for cruelty to animals.

This is definitely not on!! Of course not everyone is a dog-lover, and some people get very annoyed by dogs/cats etc in their gardens but this is downright cruelty and this guy obviously has some kind of problem! If the dog was bothering him so much he should have called the authorities so he has no excuse for animal cruelty.....
You would have every right to report him to the necessary authority. He actually sounds violent and dangerous.
I hope the poor little dog is ok! :(

Even if the leash law applies ..... if your dog was just sniffing around and that idiot did that, first off I would've already killed the guy!! I would definitely try a Cruelty to Animals Suit. Like I said the leash law if you have one in your area might get in the way a bit, but you can't tell me the guy couldn't have picked up the phone and called Animal Control to remove your dog, or just shew him off his land..he'll probably claim your dog was vicious trying to kill him.....porr dog I'd have been viscious if a shovel came at me!! How is your Buddy by the way? I certainly hope he recovers quickly and I hope that man gets bit by a rattlesnake or something!! I know that is awful to say but my gosh....he deserves it!

Of course the man was wrong for mistreating an animal. But lets put the responsibility where it should be, with your brother. Had he not allowed his dog to "wonder off" the dog would not have been injured. If he can proove the man did this to his dog maybe he can sue the guy, maybe not. Is there laws against free roaming dogs in your area? Are there leash laws? Poor dog...

First off, your brother should never have allowed his dog to "wander off". He failed to keep his dog home and safe.

Lost dogs are at risk for injury and death.

Ask animal control if the neighbor can be charged with animal cruelty...in some areas yes. Proving the charges can be difficult.

Your brother was not responsible, the neighbor is crazy and the poor dog suffered.

You need to report the man for animal cruelty if you know for sure he did that, and you need to keep your dog restrained. Also, if you have PROOF this person did this horrible thing (like a witness or two) you may be able to sue him in small claims court for vet bills.

Im a little violent when it comes to people mistreating animals so I better not tell you what I would do with the "man's" shovel.

It's horrible. Why anyone would treat an animal like that is beyond me. My "neighbor" shot my dog and threw it in a ravine though...so I understand how mad you must be. I paid a very unwelcome "visit" to my neighbor and though violence doesn't solve much it sure made me feel alot better.

if you know that the man has hurt your dog - report him to RSPCA or the police!!! that is abuse!!! what that man did was wrong, and against the law. i think that now you know that a horrible man lives down the street, you should make sure that your dog is always locked up safely in your yard.

That a**hole wouldn't live very long if he were near me. Did your brother file charges for animal cruelty? How's Buddy now?
