I had 2 lower teeth extracted on Saturday afternoon, and I was given like 15 Ibuprofen 800mg tablets for pain. I had to double the dose & take 2 tablets every 4 hours instead of 1 tablet, to do any good at all. I now only have 1 tablet left. The dentist is closed today & won't open until tomorrow (Tuesday) until about 2:30pm. What can I do to help reduce the pain until the dentist open, as no over the counter pain medicine help & this is quite bad pain as it was a very difficult extraction? I have done salt-water rinses, however it does not reduce any pain I'm in other than for like 2 minutes, than it comes right back.

If 1600mg of Ibuprofen helped somewhat then just get a bottle of Advil and take 8 pills at a time. It's not great for your stomach but the prescription 800mg Ibuprofen is exactly the same as taking 4 Advil. I asked my pharmacist and that's what they told me. I had the same situation with having to double up on the 800mg pills. Do that until you can get back to the dentist. It's possible you can ask for Tylenol-2 or 3 or even Vicodin for the pain if it's that bad.

Over the counter ibuprofen are 200 mg each. So if you take 8 of them it is the same as taking two 800 mg ibuprofen.(1600mg) Hard on the stomache. 4tabletsx200mg=(1) 800 mg tablet (if you smoke you could have dry socket-really bad pain)

Yes, you'll have pain. Try to get some Valium or something to take before you go for anxiety. It's just regular pain, no biggy. However, the BIG PAIN comes if you get a common problem called "dry socket"!!!!! If you get that ( and you'll know from the pain! ), you'll need to go back to the dentist for him to pack it for you with some clove tasting fibers.... Good luck!!

Go to your local drug store and ask for oil of clove or simply clove oil. Soak some cotton with this stuff and place it where the extraction was done. It tastes terrible but I guarantee you you will feel no pain.

Before you ask. It is natural and safe. I used it on a wisdom tooth abscess and after I got them pulled. I took every narcotic prescribed and nothing helped like this oil. Hope this helps.

when a tooth is exrtracted, a blood clot forms in the void, if you smoke, or drink from a straw, the clot can be sucked out.

This causes what is known as dry socket, and can cause extreme pain.

Call your dentist immediately.
