Nope. I give them thumbs down for two reasons:-
1. I want the opinion of the person answering, not the opinion of the author of a book (which is usually the bible, so not even a factual book)
2. All that garbage gets in the way - giving it thumbs down hides it so I can see the answers from people who have at least tried to think about what they're saying

It is always best to quote from the Bible. Let God speak for Himself. If a Christian gives you an answer that isn't backed up by scripture, that is when you should question the answer. The best answers I can give is when I can quote scripture and make no other remarks of my own. The Word speaks for itself. As Christians we should not 'think for ourselves' in the way that you mean it. We learn from God. I think many people have a problem with it because when confronted with Biblical truth they have no way of refuting the answer.

No. People who post long cut and paste answers only want a Best Answer by using another person's thoughts. They have no clue about answering a question on their own. So why read their postings since their "answers" are not really theirs?

Some questions cannot be answered unless some basic facts are established,
Any scientist proving a theory has his basics. If these are wrong, and can be proved to be wrong by someone else, all their work is pointless.
The Bible is no different.
Example; the Trinity concept is unprovable using scripture, so the explanation by priests is that it is all a mystery.
SO IF A LOVING GOD WANTS IT KEPT A MYSTERY...WHY DID HE BOTHER TO HAVE THE BIBLE WRITTEN.

I sometimes paste a longish answer about Scientology when questions are asked on the subject. I expect people to read it and many do. I did write it myself, so it's not like I'm plagiarizing.

Punter is just a pill looking for a place to annoy people, and so I just get him out of the way without reading what he says.
Otherwise if I ask a question, I read them unless they are doing what Punter does.

no, not really...some answers are obvious cut n pastes....now, I myself have written long accounts to explain a concept to someone...but I've tried to make it as compact as possible just sticking to the main points...that, I don't mind at all and I wish when people cut n pasted that they'd do everyone the same courtesy, of just highlighting the main points and posting links to their sources.

I've made it a article of faith to skip the defense of scripture by quotes from scripture.
