Probably because under certain circumstances the kola nut has hallucinogenic side-effects similar to peyote or mescaline.

What is the meaning of Kola nut ?I do not know about it But as far as I know there is no sacred nut in Islam for muslims. We can buy and eat Arabian nut and messenger's dates but there are not sacred. We can eat it and bring it as our souvenirs if we paid a haj pilgrimage or umroh. In the corner of Ka'bah before its gate/door we can see a hazar aswad or black stone. It is optional to kiss the black stone if we walked around the ka'bah for a thawaf but we do nor treat it as sacred too..This stone was laid by Abraham prophet when he raised the square Ka'bah building assisted by his son Ismael. This stone was given by Allah the only one God from heaven..
