I'm sure some of the rare breeds are a lot more expensive but the most expensive "common" breed that I know if is the English Bulldog.

I would say a Bulldog or Chinese Crested. Both are ridiculously expensive and both are pretty rare. If you don't necessarily mean which BREED is more expensive, then pet shop puppies would be your answer. My local pet shop are currently selling Maltese x Shih Tzu puppies for $599 and Lhasa Apso puppies for $1500. Mind you, the Maltese x Shih Tzu is the cheapest lot of pups there (with the exception of a male JRT which they are selling for $300)!

Usually puppy mills dogs from petshops. They can cost many thousands of dollars in vet bills and sometimes still end up dying.
Until people wise up and stop buying dogs as accessories or as trendy must haves, mills will keep breeding bad dogs in poor condtions and selling sick puppies.

what does it matter how much one pays for a puppy???
be careful about purchases from pet stores and roadside breeder "free puppy" signs are rarely good. just visit a shelter or go online to someplace like petfinder.org to locate local shelters or rescue groups for purebred dogs
Help keep them out of shelters!
Thanks - I will get off my soapbox now and sleep a while. :-)

Puggles are quite pricy. On the flip side, you can go to just about any dog pound and pick up a pit bull for about $50. They seem to have quite a lot of them there.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi's are worth quite a bit, especially studs.. they're the current queen of England's favorite breed of dog.. and there's never more than 30 corgi puppies in the US at any given time.
