maybe you need to run or jog those 5 miles. You body can get used to something really quick and you will not lose weight just not gain it. If you change your routine up like just jogging 3 miles and walking the other two I am sure you can lose some weight. Maybe you need more protein?

How long have you been on this diet?

Sometimes it takes several weeks to see results as your body is readjusting muscle mass.

Some people do not lose weight by reducing calories. Try a low carb diet or another type of diet.

Tips to help you not become discouraged:

Weigh once a week, first thing in the morning after urinating and naked.
Measure inches instead of pounds.

And remember, if you are not going to do this for the rest of your life, the weight will return. It takes lifestyle changes to keep the weight off, not a diet.

One factor is how long have you been doing this. Also how many calories does walking 5 miles burn. This is all dependent on the different variables like walking speed, incline, etc. etc. if you walk 5 miles and burn only 200 calories you not going to see any results. Try alternating back and forth between running a mile and walking a mile!

low calorie diets/deprivation make you lose water weight and muscle not fat and slow down metabolism and then you gain back more than lost as soon as start eating normal again.
to lose weight you have to eat enough so your body wouldnt store fat
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

you're probably undereating, your body is in starvation mode....you will start losing weight but it will be muscle as your body will store fat. if you are training then eat a good amount of calories , not below 1300 (but it depends on height, weight etc...you can find how many calories you need from a google search....e.g. http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm).

you need to elevate your heart rate too. running for 3 miles is better than walking for 5 if you are healthy enough to do it.

What do you mean by low calorie? Are you skipping meals? You need to eat on a regular basis. By that I mean small quantities several times a day in order to keep your metabolism working.
