They use nets with small openings. The industry, however, is heavily regulated. There is only certain times of the year they could net squid in the Atlantic Ocean.. And commercial squiders also have a weight limit. On Long Island, there are commercial squiders on Dunes Road in the Hamptons, and they usually go about three miles off shore to catch them.

Squid jigs and lots of lights! I think if you want to do this for money get on a squid boat and become a hand.The vessels I have seen have many little hooks on returning lines with lots of lights to draw the squid in and they get caught on the hooks and are drwn up to the boat!
