Desiree:: All there is, is the abstract. When the concrete delusive illusion we call life -- held together by the egoic mind -- falls to pieces, there is a light, in the dark, that few see; and even fewer approach.

Which light would you be talking about? The Christian light? The Muslim light? The Hindu light? The FSM light? They're all equally valid sources of "light," which one is the best? There is just as much truth for the existence of each source of "light." There is only one source of true light and it is slowly becoming more apparent - Atheism. Don't be afraid. Trust in logic.
edit: Well, be more specific. It sounded like a typical Christian question.
edit: Yeah, but I'm usually right. At least 90% of the time. It's more of an educated guess approach as opposed to an assumption.
edit: You know, it's all well and good being philosophical in an abstract kind of way, but if you make it too abstract, nobody know's what the hell you're talking about! I still haven't the faintest idea. So, what is it? What's this "light" to which you refer?

I don't think that people are " afraid " to approach the light. I think it's more that they are not fully aware that there is even a light to approach. What is being approached is the world right in front of them...the things of the world.
If a person is not fully aware of the magnificence of that Light...then how are they to approach something they are not even aware to approach ?
The Light preciously reveals in a person's life when it does. Till then...we are all living side by side with each other on this planet. Loving patience with them. And...loving patience with our own selfs as we're not even fully aware of the brilliance of the Light that we do know of.
Let others see the Light shine in you...that will draw some to wonder and approach / seek out the source of that Light. When they do inquire...direct them to that Light within their own selfs then watch them smile when they " get it ".

Maybe because this is a different world we're living in. Things have changed so much over time, people have become selfish, greedy, lack care and concern for your surroundings, and minds are full of lies. I think it's hard to approach the light when there's so many blockages in mind.
One needs to have a clear mind to approach the light or attain that self realization.

When there is no more ego, "the light" is all that remains, and the question of approaching cannot arise. There is no egoic construct in which it could be questioned.
The fear arises in ego prior to it's dissolution simply because 'it' fears for it's illusory existence. It's said that ego death is the only death that will be experienced.

The darkest dark is the brightest light... it frees you from the enchanting flicker and sparkle of taunt and want. Seek the inner sanctum and rejoice. The hermit walks with lantern under a moonless sky, his poison retreats the eyelids lit the sky is bright-lit hallucination... can you cross the abyss?

John 3: 18-20 explains it pretty well... it is because they are afraid that their "[evil] deeds should be reproved."
FEAR... The perfect solution to fear, is faith... This is why faith in Jesus Christ is the first principle of the Gospel (ie first principle, not ONLY principle)... it takes away the fear of condemnation, and allows people to have confidence in their walk towards the Light.

Distractions, i suppose. There are many "false lights" all pretty and shiny...that captures the senses and increases your "self-love"...The "true light" becomes very difficult to approach to.
And then if its pitch dark, a dim "true light" will attract less "light seekers", who are unaware of the brightest light behind the "dim one"
Light is such a pretty thing isn't it?

It is a long way to go to get the light. Instant relief is required. A common man surrounded with so many situations needs instant solution and cannot wait for light. So whatever he or she can do to rise above their situation they do it as road to light is long and tedious.

Because the light EXPOSES sin and staying in the dark appeals to the flesh. In the dark you can sin and get away with it, you can hide, and you may think you can do things without having to take responsibility for them. But the truth is that only the Light (Jesus, truth), leads to joy and eternal life with God. Only the light can lead the Way to Heaven. Whereas, the dark keeps you in ignorance, in despair, in sin and without hope. It also leads to hell. Which will you choose?
