The parents of my mom's employer sent me a very generous gift this weekend. Unfortunately I've never met them, nor do I know their names. But I'd like to show them I appreciate their kindness by writing a thank you note. How would I start the note? Would Dear Mr. and Mrs., suffice? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Mr & Mrs........... would suffice. I think just sending them a thank you note in this day and age is a very thoughtful and generous thing to do.

Oh yes, Mr. and Mrs. would be fine. After all, they know you have never met them.

Keep it simple. My grandpa always used to say never say thank you for an object, it was rude. He said to always say, "thank you for thinking of me on my ---"

If it's a monetary gift:
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith-
Thank you for thinking of me (us) on my (our) *graduation/birthday/wedding*. Your generosity humbles me (us). Thank you-
Sincerely,

If it's an actual item (not a gift card, that falls under the money gift) and you absolutely feel the need to mention the item, then you can add a line:
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith:
Thank you for thinking of me (us) on my (our) *graduation/birthday/wedding*. I (we) love the *purple octopus*. Your generosity humbles me (us). Thank you-

Sincerely,

Call you mom's employer and ask how to address the envelope with full names and address. Ask the boss if there is any particular way that his/her parents liked to be addressed.
