The second remote for a Dish Network dual receiver is operated through UHF and usually is pre-assigned to a band. The case here probably is that the receiver is getting commands from a remote using the same band as yours. You can call Dish Network CS number for this to help you figure out what is wrong and what could be done to fix it. You can reach Dish Network at 1-800-333-3474.

Sounds like a channel your parents didn't buy....When you try to dial in those channels, it goes to the nearest one that is purchased....

It sure sounds like your parents are recording lots of programs....that's because the TV2 mode is the main one used for recording....and TV1 is used as the master "watching TV"s unit. If two show are recorded at the same time, then TV1 is used for the 2nd show.....

If you've told the DVR to record shows, it will change the channel when it needs to record something. It will try to use TV2's tuner first, but if that one is already in use, it will use TV1's tuner as well. You can find out if something is being recorded by hitting the Info button and looking for the red dot in the title bar.
