Call walmart and make sure before you cash it if you're that unsure. I work for Walmart, and earlier this year--there was a settlement that they worked out with the Department of Labor (DOL), and they did reimburse us for what was owed us. That is your website--Department of Labor Walmart Settlement. It sounds to me like this is a legit check.

The thing looks legitimate to me and if you check on the bottom page for faqs, it has an address and phone number you can call to confirm you are a recipient. Also don't give too much information of self till you validate and that's its truly Walmart. Not surprising a huge company like that is not sued by someone for wrongful labor. It's probably peanuts to pay out so that's another reason I think it's legit. Also maybe contact the attorney general in your state to confirm that there has been such actions taken against the company. Should be easy to verify if legit, otherwise hold on to it for a bit longer till its concrete- yay or nay. Good luck, good things happen for a reason.

Ok I got your best answer right here...=)
The best thing to do is to keep the check, there should be an expiry datte, cause if you happened to trash the check only to find out it was legitamate, you'd kick your own a$$. Keep the check, read up on walmart settlements issues, watch the news, adn call the HQ for Walmart, you're sure to get and answer somewhere its always best to ask for a supervisor, as reps and techs are only taught to asnwer the phone, and dont offer real help, as for the website, its seems legit it has the security padlock in the we browswer, meaning that your information is SSL encrypted, however, use a false name and social, just some random numbers will do, if tyhey ask for email, give them a junk mail, not any address, on of yours or create a free one with yahoo. Most important KEEP THE CHECK, go to the bank, or deposit the money, but dont spend it until like 3 months from now, I mean its free money.

Call the Wal-mart head office and ask if they have been sending out checks to cover under paying you. If they say yes ask them to check on their records if you were s'posed to get a check and how much for and if there is a number on the check so you can verify.. If they say no call the authorities and alert them to this scam so they can alert others. Also find out if they say yes..that you are getting all the money owed to you...not just a quick payoff. Good luck

Your best bet is to call Walmart and speak to someone about it. If it is a real check someone in the Corporate office will be able to tell you. Another route you could take would be to call the bank the check is written from and ask them if there has been any fraudulent activity and explain you received a check and wanted to make sure it is good. I wouldn't cash it until you get some information from someone. Good luck!

You were very smart to ask.
I'd stop by Walmart and show the manager (The manager, not an assistant, or anyone less than a manager,) the check.
This sounds like a scam, and I kinda think Walmart wold like to know.

Since you are in doubt as to the validity of the check, I think your best course of action is to contact Wal-Mart directly. Since you worked for them as an assistant manager you should have their payroll departments address or your can obtain corporate information from www.walmart.com and send your inquiry to them.
I would suggest writing them a letter and enclose a photocopy of the check in question. Additionally I would contact the bank that the check is drawn on and contact them for information about the check.
Your third course of action and probably the easiest one for you to use is to have your wife take the check to her banks fraud prevention department, or whatever name they use for their department to investigate fraudulent checks. Have them investigate the checks' validity. Your wife should take the check to her branch manager and explain the situation, I think enclosing a formal letter explaining your fears and your wish to have the checks' validity investigated is the wisest course of action.
Additionally I would like to ask you if you have been involved with anyone who would have anything to gain by having a fraudulent check sent to you. The scams your wife is referring to usually involve someone asking you to receive money for them and send it to them via Western Union to an overseas location, for examply Nigeria. Has anyone asked you to receive monies for them and transfer money to them? If the answer is yes, then there is a good chance the check in question is fraudulent.

I went to the site, read the page and then went to FAQ and looked around...if it is fake, they went to a lot of trouble to make it look legit....they do mention the Department of Labor frequently (DOL). There is where you might find an answer. Call the Department of Labor at 1-8664USADOL(1-866-487-2365) also the DOL website: http://www.dol.gov someone there will be able to tell you if this is legit or not. Good Luck!

it's legit. The paperwork that came with the check made it sound like Walmart found the error and is kind enough to give you this $. Fact is they were court ordered to do this by the DOL. Good ol Walmart is putting it's spin on it.
