Pulmonary embolism is an emergency complication. No time for autofibrinolysis or any shunt is available unless skilled and intensive fibrinolytic therapy is instituted. Embolectomy is more preferred treatment of choice. For all practical purposes ventilatory shunt does not occur and help.
