No, sit ups will just build the muscle in your stomach. If you want to loose the fat around your stomach you need to do something that gets your heart rate up. Running, jogging, walking, aerobics, biking, mowing the lawn, or cleaning the house. Anything that gets your heart pumping will burn fat.

Unfortuntely no, you can't "target" an area like your midsection, do a ton of situps and expect to slim down. Fat is distributed around the whole body so your best bet to puncture your tire is to lose total body fat from everywhere by, drumroll please, diet and exercise. Situps are good though, don't get me wrong. And any other exercises that target your midsection like the hanging crunch is very popular.

no - sit ups will make your belly look bigger because they only build muscle, they dont burn fat - there is gona be more muscle underneath the layer of fat.
the only fat burning exercise is cardio - 4-6 times a week for 30-50min and it burns fat all over your body - you cant spot reduce body fat.

That is correct. We cannot spot reduce. Therefore, we have to lose fat from the whole body.

Here is an article about why we cannot spot reduce, and some info about fat loss:

I also heard a saying some where that the most important excercise is what you put in your mouth (no pun intended).
Eat well.
Excercise.

It depends on if you're actually using the muscles in the abs or if you're just sitting up with your back and neck.... You need to tighten the muscles in your abs and do crossovers to get rid of the tire. If done correctly, it will definitely get rid of it.
