No sooner than I plop a few cubes in the water dishes, three of our cats have to take up station to play the time honored game of "Fishing For Fun!"--entailing each cat scooping out the cubes to play with them. (And making a cold mess in the process.)

Why do they do this? They act like they've never seen an ice cube before! lol

It's not he ice, cats are naturally curious about and interested in anything that moves. As the ice floats in the water they see an opportunity to have a little fun while getting a cold drink. I think cats are the "clowns of the animal world'. They'll entertain themselves and you with their antics. Just like the ice in the water bowl. They probaly look forward to that game! If indoors, put a towel or bath mat under their water dish and let them have fun. If they're outside you have nothing to worry about. I've had cats actually use their front paws to get something out of the water and then sit on their back legs and lick whatever they retrieved. One of my cats, a calico, gets on the edge of the deck and stretches her paws as far as she can to try to catch the colorful toys in our pool. She's very careful now after taking a few unexpected swims. That's why I love cats so much. They're hilarious...they're imaginative and very intelligent. How many dogs do you know who can make a game of playing with their own tail? We have a new litter and I could watch them for hours. They wrap themselves around each other and roll around like a ball. Leaves become prey and they creep up then pounce on it! They were all in their box fit together like a jig-saw puzzle.
Bodies entertwined until each had a tail of another to swat. Every now and them one of them would smack 'mama' and she didn't like it one bit. She smacked him back!
I guess I've said all that to say this...who cares why they're playing with the ice. They're playing, having fun, interacting with each other and entertaining you. Where can you get that kind of comedy for free?

I think they would play with anything you plopped into their water dish including a bug. I would suggest that instead of putting ice cubes in their water bowl that you keep a bottle of cold water in the refrigerator and give them the water from there. It will certainly be a lot less messier

maximum people who've pink boys evaluate them very specific. (confident, even nonetheless he's orange, he could be called a "pink boy"). that's rather unsightly to stay with an unneutered male, so assuming he's sexually mature, he probably misplaced his one time homestead. there is not any time-honored "meow", so a raspy one isn't important. That he relatively sounds off via hissing exhibits he's sexually mature. You did no longer recommend an age. adult males hit sexual adulthood around 7 months. He must be skinny because of the fact he has worms. in many circumstances, as quickly as a cat leaves the owner's property, that's honest interest. in case you desire to undertake him, take him to a vet or take care of and function him scanned for a chip. If no chip, then it relatively is going to likely be as much as you what to do. on the minimum, get him neutered in case you desire to undertake him. he will nevertheless behave as an intact male for one to 2 months after neutering.

cats actually perfer ice cold water to drink. this is natural, normal, and has to do with body processes.
you can test it out - put two bowls down, one with room temperature water, another with colder water - they will go for the colder one. Some cats will refuse to drink warm water altogether, which is why a deep terracotta/pottery type of drinking bowl is better for them (it keeps the water cooler for longer).

as for the ice cubes - they are cool, they slide around and are unpredictable in their movement - its like a new game.

For the simple fun of it. Cats do enjoy playing and for the most part they manage to make toys out of all kinds of stuff humans wouldn't consider toy material.
