Yes certainly in tropical countries like India many people die due to heat stroke and the best thing is to drink lots of water and buttermilk laced with salt to avoid this problem. What happens in the body gets dehydrated and kidneys fail and heart failure also occurs if one is not treated immediately.

I live in Arizona and on the news the other day a lady went for a hike with her dog and child. She brought enough water for her and the child but not her dog and it died from a heat stroke. So if you are in a hot area keep water for you and your animals never think that your animal will be just fine without water in the heat even if its 30 minutes. The dog's body temp was 105 when the necropsy what done.

Remember if you live in the heat or visiting a hot place wear clothes that will let you breath, take water everywhere, and never forget to bring what is need for your animals as well.

Yes- it can be fatal.

Apply first aid immediately if a person show sign and symptoms of heat stroke. Cool the person down, hydrate them but NOT with ice water, get them out of the sun.

Ring for an ambulance!!!
