1) How much would the reserves pay for a E-2 or E-3?
2) How good is the medical insurance? What about for spouses? How much do you pay monthly?
3) What are the chances of being called into active duty?
4) And what is the time committment?

My fiance is thinking about doing the reserves. I just want to get some details down, although we are going to speak with a recruiter soon. Any help is appreciated. Thanks all!

#2The insurance is great and costs nothing while you are "drilling". Spouses are included in this... Their are other benefits also ie... Base exchange and commisary priviledges to name a few.
#3Chances are not as good that you will be called in unless your rate is desperately needed on active duty at that time.
#4The time commitment varies by your NEC (your rate or job in lamens terms)

all initial contracts are for EIGHT years.

Military personnel are only covered under Medical while Drilling.. so their weekend a month/2 weeks a year deal, and if they get activated. Spouses are only covered if the Reservist is activated for more than 30 days.
there is no monthly cost while covered under these conditions. you do have the option to elect to pay for a continuation of covereage at the end of the activation period. It's a few hundred a month, and you would be on Standard, not Prime. There is also a time limit of how long you can have this covereage,I want to say 6 months, possibly a year.

the chances of being called up is high, especially for certain ratings.any of the Seabee ratings, MA and HM are among the ratings with the highest possibility of being called up for a year long IA tour.

Mrsjvb answered all your questions, with accurate information. I will totally agree with what she said.

The main thing I want to make sure that you and everyone else understands is that the Reserves DOES NOT offer family medical coverage (unless your husband is on active duty longer than 30 days). And, your fiance eventually will be called on to serve his country on active duty, so if he definitely does not want to deploy, the military is not for him. Good luck to you both.
