They were born under my house and it had rained so much here that it flooded and she brought him to my door so I took him in at only 10 days old and he's doing really good. I coulnd't leave him outside. The whole town was flooded and I'm glad I took him because it's been raining here like crazy ever since.

Its okay if it is away from its mom at 5 weeks old, I have a cat that was taken away at 3 weeks old that we found on our doorstep, it turned out normal. Plus I have 4 baby kittens and they are 5 weeks old and already weaned and litter trained. If it is by itself you should keep a litter box in a certain spot around the house, but dont switch it around or it will get confused. If it stays in a crate keep a small litter pan there so it will figure out where it needs to go. It may take a little time for it to get the picture but it will eventually. Cats are naturally clean creatures and will usually get the idea pretty quick, without any help. Literally, as soon as it pops out it can start!!!

You can start as soon as possible. My kitten moved in when she was about a week old, and she was abandoned. She started in a litter box about two days later and caught on right away and has never had an accident. I used a pie pan so she could get into it since litter boxes can be quite high. Good luck!

Your baby belongs with it's mother. What happened here??
It may never be 'normal' being taken away from Mom way too early. I have seen 5 week old abandoned kittens use a shallow litter box.

Your kitten is ready:) My kittens began training at 4 weeks. Get a small shallow litter box with small grained type litter to start. I started out with a shallow box top so they wouldnt be hesitant to jump in. They are bound to miss a little at first, so you may want to put news paper around and under it. GOOD LUCK:)

Just a few weeks old. All of my kittens came to be litter trained. They ranged in ages from 6wks, to 8 wks old. Most have it down pretty well by 8 wks.

Kittens should stay with their mothers until they are at LEAST 10 weeks old. The mother cat will litter train the kittens.

start now.. we put my mums kitten in a room with the box. it was running wild when we caught it. the next morning it had used the litter box.. everytime it finishes a feed, place it in the box.. do this every so often and it will get the idea. if it goes somewhere else, pick up the cat and show it the box and place it there. this works if you happen to catch it doing its business somewhere its not meant to

I think you can start as early as possible. This article explains it a bit more http://www.squidoo.com/cat-house-training/
