When I get very depressed, as I am now, I tend to get VERY nostalgic. Is this why I feel inclined to become a Christian again? Because that's what I was when I was a kid?

I DO have God in my life. I DO try to live for him!

It is not for Religious reasons. Your depression may be for some of your personal or family problems. Religious beliefs do not make you so much depressed. The reason for your present position I feel is you think too much about religion, etc. The thinking of religions and spiritualism should come in the second part of anyone's life and it should not occupy whole time. How atheist without thinking of religion or propagating against religious beliefs are happy ?

Only if you get full satisfaction and enthusiasm you do the activity; else you can be of your own. You are the best judge of yourself which path is to be selected. Similarly you can select your religion too. You can go back to Christianity or continue as Hindu, but it all depends where you get peace. Either Christ or Krishna will guide you depending on the path you choose. Do not have wavering mind and get nostalgic. Do not think or concentrate too much in these religious things much till your Depressed situation improves. Best of luck.

When I get nostalgic I also tend to get depressed sometimes too. I think everyone longs for part of their childhood back. It's possible that is why you are having these feelings about returning to being a Christian.

I guess for me it's the other way around, when I was a little kid I was an atheist. Go figure that is what I have returned too.

Perhaps, or maybe your inclination is the Holy Spirit drawing you. If you were once a Christian, I can tell you that God will do everything to bring you back into the fold, like a lost sheep. I must say, I don't understand you saying you try to live for God, but you're not a Christian. Do you know that just believing in God is not enough--one must believe in His Son, Jesus Christ as Savior?

Maybe. When we were kids, we believed in the tooth fairy and Santa Claus and and the easter bunny. Now that we've supposedly grown older and wiser, we know that those were all myths, as well as the myth of some great sky marshal looking down upon our every move to see if we'll join him in the great cloud in the sky or BURN IN HELL FOR AN ETERNITY!!! You've gotten smarter as you've aged, but still long for a time when you believed in myth and fable and could clasp your hands together and pray your problems away. But soon enough, you realize that you are a thinking adult and have to work on your own solutions to your life's ups and downs...

When you're depressed, you tend to think of happier times and happier times are usually associated with childhood. I don't think it has anything to do with religion, but if being a Christian is a happy memory for you, then maybe you should become one again.

But WAIT until you're not depressed before you make the decision.

Because Christianity gives nice happy answers.

Somebody loves you , whatever.
There is purpose and meaning to life.
Bad things happen for a good reason. (Ours not to question why.)
You are going to live forever in a happy wonderful place.

Nice happy answers are great when you want to shelter your kid from the harsh realities of the world.

But adults need to learn to cope with reality.

Not a psychologist, but I guess it is comfort.

I love store bought chicken nuggets and cheap barbucue sauce - only because it was kind of a treat as a kid. My mom isn't a very good cook, but sometimes her crap meals taste so good when she cooks because it tasted just as crappy as when I was a kid. I still like Magnum PI. and millions of other things my adult self would never like because it was like that when I was a kid.

I love nostalgia, such a sense of unknowing of the future looking back on the past.

I love it, that's why I listen to particular music that takes me on a trip of emotion.

It could be because it is easier to take refuge in the past than face the future, and it's easier to take refuge in relgious faith than face reality. Not necessarily wiser, but easier.
