People like to get worked-up over things. Most medical treatments don't hurt much these days ...

Personally, I've always wondered by people get so freaked out about teeny-tiny bugs since people are 1 million times bigger than the bugs. I wonder if gigantic, prehistoric animals ran around in circles and screaming when they saw small people with sticks? lol

Every one has a different "pain threshold". That goes fro mental as well a physical. Some people don't hurt when stung by a bee and others really hurt. Lots of men don't show pain because they think it will make them look weak. That is how the animal world does it too.

When a dog is hurt they don't show pain because it will make them vulnerable to other predators.

I have experienced both mental and physical pain. Both (to me) have been more that I ever thought I could or would feel. So much so that I really didn't think I would live through it. Have had deep depressive episodes. Had a surgery or two that some say is one of the more painful injuries to recover from.

From my point the mental pain is the worst. The meds I take help a lot now a days. Doing real good now.

So have hope no matter what ails you.

That's an interesting question. Both physical and mental pain cause suffering, and there are varying degrees of both. A lot of people have needle phobias, which usually occurs in childhood, and they never quite get over it. I agree that mental anguish is just as painful on a scale of one to ten as is physical pain. However, both can be treated and relieved. If you are suffering from mental anguish, I hope you are getting some help through counseling, psychiatry or therapy. There are many medications that will help you to cope, also. Just know that you are not alone, dear. We have all been through personal crises; failed relationships, broken marriages, illnesses, death of a loved one, financial ruin, uncertain futures, fear, anxiety, failures and stress. But don't despair. There is help available.

Actually, I am fine with needles, as long as I'm not in a dentist chair and that needle is going in my mouth, THEN I have a problem with them. Physical pain? Because it's painful??
Mental anguish, yeah, well, you do have a point there as well because there's someone I'd like to get ahold of and it causes me much anguish. But when I get my chance, she's going to know physical pain though for causeing so many problems in my family! I agree with you though.

Physical pain is how we know that something is amiss with our bodies. If your mental pain is so extreme that you need physical pain to distract you from it, it's time to get HELP.

The subconscious mind is responsible for our safety and survival, it is what generates the fear of pain.
