Unless your extremely active those 3000 calories a day are going to pack on some weight. MRE's were designed for field use when other sources are unavailable or logistically difficult to provide. They are high in calories due to the expected conditions that they are to be used in. They were not designed for long term subsistence but they probably could be used if needed.

Until your body really gets used to them, you'll get backed up. As a Canadian soldier, I've lived off of our field rations for a while and I've had MRE's. Seems that constipation is a side effect common to both our hard rats. Wouldn't be surprised if it was worldwide.

Also, your morale will start declining real fast after a few weeks of the stuff. You'll be getting sick and tired of a limited selection and after a while you'll be craving anything fresh. And when you switch back to fresh food, your digestive tract can start doing weird things to you.

Also, you'll need to keep an active lifestyle or very long work hours to burn off the amount of energy you get out of those. There's enough energy in one meal to keep the average person alive for a day.

I really can't say, and I was in the Army for eight years. In that time, the LONGEST I went eating only MRE's was about a week. The food service people have a small trailer in which they can prepare what is at least semi-normal food in field or wartime conditions.

Just pointing out that you are a bit far-fetched in your assumption that MRE's are all the military ever eats. :)

The sodium content is quite high, about 9 grams of salt per day, and the fiber content quite low. These are useful attributes in combat rations but not best for long-term health.

In my days it was C rations. Our joke was "C" for constipation. Maybe thats why there was just that 1 little piece of paper.
If you think the guys are not getting the wonders of the chow hall you be misinformed. Real food was served way back in WWII too.

MRE's have very high calorie counts.

So if your not doing something to burn alot of calories and eating mre's all the time.

Your gonna get fat quick.
