Getting a tattoo is an awesome experience and is widely respected, especially large tattoos (you'll understand when you get one)
Hell yeah, it hurts. Don't let anyone in the world tell you otherwise because if they do, they are lying! You're getting needles jammed into your back over and over again. It's just up to you as to HOW MUCH it hurts.
I got a large tattoo across my shoulders which took a few hours to do. I plan on getting more.
It feels like a burning, stingy-pinchy sensation that eventually turns dull after about 10-15 minutes after that, it's just annoying.
Remember, a tattoo is with you forever. Removal is painful, expensive and it leaves a really nasty scar. So make sure you think long and hard about what you're doing.
Edit: usually areas that are near bone, or have thin or sensitive skin, hurt more than meaty areas. (So elbows, ankles, etc. will hurt more than thigh, top of forearm, etc)

I have a tattoo on my inner right wrist and it's may favorite one. Even though it seems like it would be very visible---it's not that bad at all; people hardly notice it. It hurt a bit--my wrist was jerking on its own but it went so quick, that is got numb fast and it was over. I did have to get it re-inked because it faded a bit which will happen when it's in an area that you constantly wash. The pain really depends on your tolerance--good luck!
(ps the upper back hurt me much more then my wrist)

I've never been tattooed on the wrist, but the one time I wanted to, the tattoo artist told me it wasn't the best place to get a tat. Definately not for your first tattoo, I would do the back for your first, and after you find out what the pain tolerance is, go for the wrist. The wrist is a highly sensitive area, so make sure you can handle it before you go for it!

Yes-- this tattoo hurts relatively somewhat. I simply received a couple of wings tattood on my internal wrist and it took approximately an hour and was once lovely painful. However the discomfort was once bearable and I love the tattoo that is what quite issues. And it close to wholly healed in approximately per week.

iv got a butterfly on my inner wrist an i didnt actually feel a thing. im not sure if it was the way i was sitting or the tattooist but i didnt feel much pain at all.
it only took about an hour. but like they say it depends on how you cope with pain an if you have a high pain tollerance.

i have both, back and wrist done, i didnt find one harder to take than the other but i have many tattoos and had my wrist done latterly, i would strongly rec for your first you go for your back, i worked in a studio for years and it wasnt often people had their wrists done first, the back, be it lower, or shoulders was very popular as a first. you are right to start off small, and progress from their, take your time in choosing, its there forever, good luck

I wouldn't recommend it, go for the back first, depending on what you do for a living, you shouldn't get tattoos that aren't easy to cover up. I have a friend that has tats on his hands and he has a hard time getting jobs.
