When I was cleaning my glock 23 (.40 cal) I shook it a little and hear a rattling noise, when I ****** it and shook it there was no rattling noise. should there be any rattling at all ? it has progressively gotten worse and now its a big rattle(after other shooting and cleaning)....is this normal? Can I make it not rattle? I think its the firing pin, but I dont know ....any help? Thanks

I was just fooling around with it more and I took the slide off. I pressed the botton underneath it and shook it and the I guess firing pin or catch was shaking. can I stop this? THANKS!

I have had four separate GLOCKs over the years and they ALL did the same thing. The best I can figure is that the firing pin is loose when the gun is un-******. I noticed that the rattling goes away when the gun is ready to be fired. It's probably not a good idea to shake the gun with one in the chamber, though. This is no reason to be concerned.

Not ******? meaning that the trigger has been pulled on a empty chamber? The glock is always partly ****** (held under tension) at any other time.
If this is heard when the slide is locked back, it is most likely the barrel moving inside the slide.
If it has not effected the guns dependability but just concerns you, take it to a gunsmith and he should be able to tell you what is causing the rattle.
One other thing you have not advised that it can be, is a loaded magazine in the gun, once the cartridges are compressed against the slide (read fully loaded mag inserted into the mag well and seated) the shell will some times rattle until one round is fired.

I am a police firearms instructor and certified Glock armorer. That button is one of the internal safety devices. When the weapon is ****** there is pressure on this piece from the firing pin. When it isn't ****** there is no pressure on this piece, causing it to be a little loose. It should not rattle too badly. If it is rattling a little too much get it checked out. If there is a local Glock dealer they may have an armorer in-house.

The rattle is probably one of the safety devices. It must be held in a normal shooting position to allow the firing pin to operate. If it is held upside down, as example, it won't work.pp

was the magazine loaded and in the gun?they will all rattle at one time or another. you can take a round out of the magazine and the rattle will stop

Why I never buy pistols. In my humble opinion, one should know 'em inside-out when they buy them, because I know they can be taken apart and put back together without screws.
So, maybe you didn't put it back together correctly?
