Because we are still living on Earth, and as long as we live on Earth all the things you mentioned will happen.
1. Fires-Many things on Earth are flammable
2. Drought-Water dispersion planetwide is not uniform, nor consistent
3 Famine- Too many people in third world cesspools breeding like rabbits when they can't feed what they have.
4. Eathquakes-tectonic plates,it's called science try it sometime.
5. Wars-People fight over all the crap they don't agree on,like religion.
AD
PS And as a little voice of reason let me say this in closing,in response to your idea that things are getting worse. First the Earth is in a constant state of flux, weather patterns change, earths surface shifting etc. That is something both some Christians looking for end times, and Global Warming nuts who also think the end is here don't seem to get. Look up historical events and you see stuff that makes stuff today look like nothing, like in WW2 when half the worlds population was at war at one time, compared to that anything going on now is childs play. But if the only thing that brings you comfort is thinking it's all about to end go right ahead.

There have been fires, droughts, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, wars, and lawlessness since the beginning of time. And for the past 2000 some-odd years, people have been saying "Look! It's the signs! The end is near!"

Because there have ALWAYS been fires, droughts, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, wars, lawlessness. What a stupid question. Oh, well, at least you can spell, unlike the average bone-brained fundy.

We live on the planet earth. For as long as there have been people we've had all of these things. Each generation of christians has found the evidence they expected to show that the end times were nigh. they've always been wrong before, no reason to believe that they aren't wrong now.

In the beginning God completely sustained His creation without blemish. That’s why it was perfect. He held every atom together in a perfect state. He kept the planets in their orbits. He kept animals from tripping and breaking their necks. He did not allow people to suffer and die.
Deuteronomy 8:4 gives us a little glimpse of how things might have been in the original creation. “Thy raiment waxed not old upon thee, neither did thy foot swell, these forty years.” God is omnipotent and perfectly capable of sustaining and protecting his creation.
When Adam sinned, however, the Lord cursed the universe. In essence there was a change and along with that change God seemingly took away a little bit of his sustaining power and allowed things like suffering and death into His creation. Now He permits bad things to happen—and this is a reminder that sin has consequences and that the world needs a Savior. Romans 8:22 says, “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”
God took pleasure in all of His creation ("http://bible.gospelcom.net/bible?passage=revelation+4:11&version=NKJV"), but He loved people most of all. He allowed the created universe to deteriorate so we would see the consequences of our sin. If we did not see the consequences of our sin, we would never see that we need salvation from our sin, and we would never accept His offer of mercy for our sin. Most people easily recognize that there is a problem in the world. This can be used to show them that there is one who has overcome this problem of death and suffering—Jesus Christ.

Fires and droughts: Global warming
Famine, pestilence: politics ^_^
Earthquakes: Tectonic plate movement
Wars: politics =D
Lawlessness: politics. ^_^
So as you can see, politics are the leading source of bad things. Not "Great Tribulation".

Yeah, we've never had any of those things before. So, it must have something to do with ancient Hebrew war-gods and their celibate hanged sons. It's the only logical explanation.

I believe that we are in the end times. Pay close attention to the Land of Israel and Iran. Because Iran was once Persia.

The world is still stabilizing. It's better than it was 1000 years ago. This is the beginning of the world, not the end.

yes, always mankind had problem but now it is ten times more, and is not about the population because before you have 1000 people and 10 crimes now 10000 people and 500 crimes and greater tribulation.
