First of all you're too young to qualify for welfare, you'll have to be 21 yrs old, unless you're what they call an independent minor. In that case your parents will have to be dead, you homeless and/or in a shelter and have a kid/s or a disability. Even then they give you the hardest of time. You'll have to prove every penny you claim to have or don't have, provide prove of where you're currently living or not living, how your bills are paid or not paid, everything. I know because I at 22 yrs tried to apply, not for welfare per say, but food stamps and day care assistance so I could get back to school/college.I provided prove to them showing that my husband was physically and sexually abusive to me, presented them with a copy of the restraining order, police reports and court papers showing that he was presently before the courts facing federal rape and abuse charges and they still gave me the hardest of time.In the end I received $82 cash assistance per month and $125 food stamp per month for myself and child. As for the child care they told me they'll have to take him to court for child support which will take a few months and then from that they'll give me a part of whatever they received to pay for day care.I closed my case.
All of this to make you realize, it's not worth it. You're better off struggling on your own. Make it a daily routine to search for jobs utilizing whatever skill/s you possess, go back to school, especially if you have no kids and make something of yourself that you and your family can be proud of, proud enough you could brag about (not that you should) but you know what I mean.
Welfare really are for losers and the staff at the welfare offices make sure they let you know and feel that. They treat you as if you were standing at a corner begging for a penny. Don't do that to yourself unless it was thee very last resort.
Also they'll give you a choice of either going to school or working with the Parks, as in cleaning the parks in the city. Even if you go to school half day they'll tell you you could still work a few hours , and the number one place for them to put you is in the park cleaning up peoples mess and dog doodoo.

OK you are still young and welfare is for people that really need the help and welfare will make you look for a job so there isn't really a point for getting on it if not needed!! and actually you have to be 21 to receive it because you are legally an adult and your parents aren't responsible for you any more

You have to go to you local county office Department of Human Resources. You will have to fill out your info and discuss restrictions with them. In the mean time you need to look for some work until you get back on your feet. Craigslist often lists surveys you can take to make extra money. There are a lot of free offers there from appliances too furniture that people are giving away you just need to be able to pick up. There are also some good jobs listed. Do not fall for the make money at home and read email scams or some place asking for money. None of them work. Don't wait for the want ads you need to put the shoe leather to work and look for whats available nearby. You might be able to work for the convenience store just down the street. Their are opportunities out there but they wont fall in your lap. You have to grab them.

I am sure that in order to get help you would have to be a parent with little or no income or disabled in some way and I think metal disability's qualify also. I know if your not working but you don't have any of the things I mentioned you still could apply for a food card for help.. I hope this helps Little

The best way to find out is to go down to your local welfare office. You can find it in the yellow pages' state government section. It does help to have some sort of disability, or a child. You may be required to look for work or attend school.

you have to have kids or be pregnant.
They will make you send out several resumes every week, plus do several interviews every week. You have to do tons of stuff for hardly any money. It's really not worth it. You'd be better off if you can get a job paying minimum wage.

If you are financially independent, you may qualify for housing assistance. For example, Illinois offers emergency and transitional housing to eligible individuals. Transitional housing provides up to two years of food and support.
