Alright, I'll answer this seriously this time. I was watching a short clip about that creation science museum that just opened, and one of the guys there was talking about religion and morality. The guy basically said something like this: "Atheists don't believe in God, so they have no reason to be good people. I'm not saying that atheists AREN'T good people, just that they have no REASON to be good people."
I wish more Christians understood that that's a load of crap. I don't believe in a personal god, but that doesn't mean I think morality isn't important. Not even close. I try to make a huge effort to help other people and do the right thing, to the point where I beat myself up for it if I make a mistake. When I make a mistake I don't think "oh, well, there's no consequences after death, so who cares?" I wish more theists understood that doing the right thing IS important to atheists, and that being moral IS important to them, and stop asking these questions implying that I don't care about hurting other people because I don't think I'll ever be punished for it -- because that is utter, utter BS.

I am not a chritstian nor an athiest. I think I am more agnostic than anything else. I arrived that way by visiting all the religious services I could. The first one I crossed off my list was anything having to do with fundamentalism.
To them, they are doing you a great service by saving your soul. You see, if you do not profess to take jesus christ into your heart, you will most certainly go to hell. That's why they try so hard. To save you, means they have done a great service and will surely be saved a seat in heaven.
Personally, I don' t believe there is a hell. I am almost certain that a God who loves me more than anything, a God who has put me here to make choices and mistakes, would not condemn me to eternal damnation. I don't think there is anything that any child could do that would make a parent love their child less. Why would God?
I don't think that Fundamentalist Christians get to even question the bible because that is considered blasphamous. I am with you. I think it is a sin to live by a tradition that was written by men, (they were the only people educated at the time,) passed down by oral tradition, translated so many times that who knows what the original story really was. On top of that, there were certain books that were left out of the bible because they were not considered appropriate.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Believe as you wish. God gave you the opportunity to choose, and I don't think that she cares whether you believe in her or not. She's a gracious entity who will always believe in you.

I understand that they don't believe in God, but they seem to attack only the Christians, and some of the Atheists can be very crude in their questions.
The Christians are not the only people who believe in God, some religions believe in many many God, but the Atheist attack only the Christians. why is that? if you answer because of what they do! not all Christians are good, but not all of them are bad as well. And while we are at it, neither are the Atheist all good or all bad.
Atheist just like any other human being, complicated, there must be more to them than the eye can see. In this site, many seem to be on the attack only against the Christians. For shame. Respect is a two way street.

I think I do understand their position. Many of them have been very good at explaining their reasons and positions on this forum when the opportunity has presented itself. I may not agree with their beliefs but I can see where they are coming from.
**I am thinking tonight is not a good night to be on, there seem to be a lot of hostile, immature answers flying around. I also don't think everyone is reading the question.
I think atheists believe that empirical scientific data preclude any other ideas. They believe anything supernatural should be considered false ideas unless scientific testing can be conducted to remove the unknown from it. I think some of them believe those who believe in anything that can not be proven are placing their faith in emptiness and some may see that as foolishness. They do not believe in a human soul, they believe that at death a person as we know it ceases to exist and the body simply decomposes for eternity. Religion, astrology, psychics, ghosts, and maybe UFOs are all unnecessary human invention.
Not sure but I tried to cover everything.
**My thumbs down fan must be on tonight. Just wanted to say hey what's up. Thanks for your vote, I can always count on you to be there for me.

Hello, i understand that if someone, anyone is honest, okay and understands that of all the knowledge and wisdom you DO NOT have, don't know where to even look, Can GOD be there, Okay if you claim to be honest then you just admitted that you are NOT an Atheist, the human body is way to complex to be just a happened thing, someone designed it its not just a accident, okay you have a creator and God is that person, the ten commandments is the base for all laws of any country that you would feel safe in living there, and so if the ten commandments are real then so is the rest so i understand there is NO SUCH THING as a Atheists, free bible lessons www.amazingfacts.org talk to me also wgr88@yahoo.com God bless

Why dont you go ask the Muslims that same question.
Why not ask "What dont Muslims understand about Athiests".
Why does it always have to be Christians?
Take a cheap shot at another religion for a change ok?

I understand the atheists. They are in the Bible. "The preaching of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing." Accept Jesus and receive eternal life.

The most intelligent Christians don't understand why atheists choose to deny the existence of God when it is actually possible God might exist, even though highly improbable.

Why there is so much hostility and name calling.
If you don't agree we can agree to disagree. Nothing is accomplished by calling names

Your question's still pretty general. But I would say this: atheists believe that God doesn't exist.
That's it isn't it? Or is there something more you are looking for?
