asking her out is ok i guess, but best when face to face or on phone at least. just dont tell her you like her on IM

It's ok. It's kind of the chicken way to do it but whatever works for you. In person is best, phone would be number two, and I'd say IM is the last resort. You don't wanna seem like a baby.

Girls like it more when u have the nerves to ask in person. If you ask via IM, text, or through a friend, she'll think you wouldn't have the nerves to hang out with her in person after that.

I would NOT do it over IM.
Do it in phone if you cannot in person. Such an initimate thing shouldn't be downplayed over the internet. She would appreciate it more if she could at least hear your voice.
Even if you sounded nervous...girls love it.

no, do it in person. if you do it by IM you'll look like a wuss. (sorry, it's the truth). my ex broke up with me by putting a note in my locker- he never heard the end of that one from my friends! he's still hearing about it!
i don't know why, but it's considered whimpish if you don't do it in person, sorry
