Because most of the models they made were also made for Buick. Since GM has Chevy, Ponitac, Buick, Cadillac and Saturn all making similar sized cars, one less company line would not be missed.
GM expected people to jump from Chevy to Pontiac and on up the line to Cadillac. Now you must go straight to Buick from Pontiac. The middle ground (and overlap) was the Olds lineup.
Without an outstanding vehicle that didn't exist in the upper lines, there was nothing drawing buyers to Olds.

Oldsmobile went out of business just like other past vehicle manufactures because no one was buying their product so they decided to cut their losses and pull out before they lost to much money.

GM told them to correct major problems with a number of the cars and trucks.Oldsmobile did try to correct the problems by steeling from chevy, pontiac, buick and so on.GM got tired of the childish fixes and pulled the plug on them.Olds got what they wanted no future.
