Hi:
Yes, there can also be vasectomies that do not take, just as a woman having her tubes tied, slight risk is there also.
Prior to the vasectomy the patient must supply a sperm sample. This way the lab will do a sperm count prior to the procedure. Sometime after the procedure another sperm sample is required. Desired results are for a lower count that the first sample. Again so time passes and more sperm must be counted.
As long as the sperm count is decreasing with each sample things are probably looking good that it is taking. But Please make sure that you speak to his surgeon and asks all the questions until all answers are acceptable to you.

I think what your talking about is when the man goes to the doctor and gets worked on and he can no longer have more children. But i'm not sure I might be getting something mixed up. A women gets her tubes tied and she can't have no more children but sometimes there is 1 that is unlucky and ends up getting pregnate but the baby is in her fullipean tube and the doctors has do something b/c its unsafe. But it my state Kentucky you can't get your tubes tied until your 21 years old unless you have trouble having children like you have had some miscarriages or trouble giving birth. The doctors also looks at it like this if you get your tubes tied before 21 they think you would like to have more children after you get your tubes tyed. I know this b/c after I had my second chid I wanted to tie my tubes but couldn't b/c I wasn't 21 and I had no health problems wrong with me. But now after I had my second child I have had 2 miscarriages. With my first miscarriage the doctors said I had a incomplete abortion (as they call it) but I was 5 months pregnate when I had the miscarriage. I had to go threw surgery and everything but where I was so far along they had to get the baby out of me b/c it had died. My medical bills where $2,400

Well not all vasectomies are guaranteed, but usually are pretty solid. Only in rare cases do they recanalize or are they not complete and can cause pregnancy, but all doctors *SHOULD* require a repeat sperm sample about 6 weeks post operatively to make sure that the surgery was successful.

Yes.
You have to use protection until there are no signs of living sperm in the semen. The man is supposed to go for check-ups to see if he is not releasing live sperm.
This way he will know if his doctor has not inadequately blocked one or both tubes, or because one or both tubes has rejoined ( less than 1/2500 men, but still possible).

Usually they test a man after a vasectomy to make sure it "took". They can also reverse themselves over time, at least I know that has happened in the past. Maybe the newer methods are more full proof.

It is unusual but not impossible for a vasectomy to reverse itself, and then yes it may be the man could be fertile enough to have kids, but no garantees.
When you get one the make you sign a form that says that you acknowledge that it is permanent, but that you can't sue them if it goes wrong (reverses itself), so they know its possible.

Impossible to answer, even for doctors. You always run the possibility of becoming sterile. If your doctor is eithical and truthful with you, he will tell you that before having the operation.
