You can have indifference and hate and still love the person. You can hate a person's actions and share indifferences and find a compromise. Just the problem with that is, people don't want to be fair!

The opposite of love would be not loving which doesn't neccessarily mean that you hate either so maybe indifference would better describe the opposite. But the extreme opposite would be hate I guess

I would think indifference. If you hate someone, there is some feeling there. Indifference is a total absence of feeling, which I think sometimes is worse. Hate comes in different degrees.

That depends on what you mean by opposite. Hate is the rational opposite. Indifference is the emotional opposite.

Hate would be the first thing to jump into my head but Hate and Love can be so closley related and even people can love and hate someone so much at the one time ( i.e a partner who has cheated etc. ) both are passionate. So I would have to say Apathy is the opposite of love.

So the opposite of Love is Fear.
